This is good. It will work well on a scene I'm working on.

That's a beautiful ground texture. I'm going to try and replicate something very similar. How did you do it? I'm going to try and make the soil in zbrush, bake a normal, AO, and height with Xnormal (I'll use Mdo2 for some maps as well as it's pretty good) and then paint the various layers in photoshop. I'll probably then sculpt the pebbles, go through the same process, and overlay it on the ground texture maps. Is that similar to how you did it? Or did you just paint it??

By the way, how did it go in Minecraft? Did it murder the FPS?

idk if you're familiar with repeat ctm, but it basically splits up this texture on 8 by 8 blocks, so the individual block resolution is just 256x. performance should be similar to an 256x pack, but I don't really know since I only did like 10 textures in that pack, the farthest I got with a texture pack was 100 textures or so, also heavy ctm, but only 64x

I generally work in photoshop and blender, so yeah there's some 3d involved, but actually more procedural textures (noise + small blur, clouds, difference etc) used as displacements/height maps and photoshop default filters on top of each other. Sculting and painting will have better results obviously, especially if you already know where the texture is going to be used and get sculpt based on what's going to be exposed/hidden/covered by stuff
tbh this is the only texture on here with an actual photo used; the pebbles are isolated/edited from an image I made tileable.

Well you did an excellent job. Most of the textures I see that use photos look like, well, photos. This has that beautiful realism/stylised blend that I aspire towards in my own work. I really don't know much at all about procedural textures. I should probably look into it! Thanks for the heads-up :)

I'm using a modified version of this texture for my minecraft texture pack. I included a mention in the github readme. github.com/dodekeract/lotus

Funny thing is, I originally made this texture for minecraft. Here's a screenie using it (8 by 8 repeat CTM). dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/97…
Have fun with it, texture packing is awesome :)

Yeah I thought it was quite fitting already. I personally just think it's a little too dark. (I like more "faithful" textures, which look similar to default)
