TRIVIA:

- also known as Umibōzu, Umihōshi, and Uminyūdō

- it was only for around 225 years ago that this giant jellyfish was re-discovered. it was for a long time believed to be sea hallucination instead of a real creature. it was only discovered that it was real because juvenile was found dead on a shore on Kinka.

- oddly enough, when the dead juvenile dried up on the beach, it painted the sand and part of the sea inky black. it didn't go away for years and many today believe that black sand is made by Black Manet 'blood'.

- Black Manet is the biggest Jellyfish species. for something so big, it is a very illusive creature of the sea. only the bell(the body part of the Manet) have been measure. it have been impossible to measure it by including the tentacles because it is simple too dangerous and because so few of them the adults have been seen. few brave ones have estimate it to be over 100 m or more in length with the tentacles.

- it was a long time believed to be a giant humanoid monster because of the luminescent rings on top of the bell. these looks a look like staring eyes when at certain angles. the entire bell are surrounded by five or six rings and because of the placement of the rings, many things they look like eyes. the lower power of the bell and the tentacles also glows up but not as sharp as the rings.

- Black Manet only keep the dull glow in the tentacles when they are deep underwater to attract prey. the sharp ring glow only appear when they are one meter away from the surface or over water. since their eyes are located in the same area as the rings, it is possible they glow so it possible blinds them. it was first believes they do this to attract a mate but they will also glow these rings when they are alone. nobody knows why they only glow those eye-shape rings when they are close to the surface.

- people are not fully how they mate but many believe they breed sexually as other Manet does. the eggs will float with the steams of the oceans and hatch away from the adults. with not many adults seen, it is possible that only 1% of the eggs will reach adulthood.

- only four adults have been seen and documented after the re-discovery. two of them was doing the mating ritual and the other nearly destroyed the boat the zoologists used to document them. this Manet was seen swim down to the bottom of the sea and disappear so it is believed the adults lives in the still very unknown Abyss part of the sea.

- Black Manet have only been seen near the surface when they mate or inside the eye of a storm. it is unknown why they only appear in the calm before the storm. they have a tendency to stick most of the bell over the surface so they can look like a massive bald humanoid head with massive glowing eyes. they continuing doing this until the weather gets too wild and they once again dive into the deep of the ocean.

- in these calm before the storm moments is where most ship and boat accidents with Black Manets happens. it seems like there is something about the hull of bigger ships there attach them and they have destroyed mutilpy ships and killed hundred by sinking the ship because of this. even if they are mostly made out of jelly-like substance, those who have survived an encounter with an Black Manet says they are more solid than they look like and just by bumping into boats and ships. if they hit right, they can break the hull like a massive rock. what kills most peoples when they touch the Manet because it will consider everything moving as food. so far many believe it is the glow of crystals or fire there attract them to ships. so far the only thing there have made them avoid ships is by turning off every light on a ship of boat or using burning dry seagrass which does gives up a certain smell.

- Black Manet are highly venous. the tentacles are filled with neo-toxin there can kill a person withing seconds. it takes a bit longer with bigger species but that do not matter because the moment the tentacles feel movement, they will catch the prey and drag it into the middle of the bell to be eaten whole. nobody have survived the venom of a Black Magnet and there is no cure because the toxin are so potent.

- oddly enough, when they die, the toxin is somehow turned off and will only cause minor skin irritation if touched. the most annoying part is that touching the tentacles on a dead Manet will paint your hand or any skin black for months and you will have a constant itching.

- when they were still believed to be mere legends, they were believe to be the ghost of the drowned or more precise; a person with a strong faith of sea deities or felt more at home on the sea than on land. they were at the time called many different names but most of them was "ghost sea." "the drowned giant" or "the dead sea believer". it was also believed that if you saw a Black Manet and survived, you will be gifted with a longer life.
