Sideshow Collectibles: Snake Plissken by FabianMonk Sideshow Collectibles: Snake Plissken by FabianMonk
Good ol' Kurt Russel. Did this for Sideshow a while back, and in case anyone is interested, Sideshow is currently selling limited edition prints of this (300 copies). Head on over here for the scoop: www.sideshowtoy.com/collectibl…

Done in Photoshop CS5.

Awesome work! Probably the best rendition of Snake I've seen outside of the movie; I'm so glad I found the source for this piece.

That Gun there... Pretty interesting. Don't get me wrong, you are an amazing artist, and its a great pic. But that gun is... not good.

You built it in like 3 different perspectives, gave it a scope, gave it a magazine that could only house .22s, and then a muzzle that seems to be firing shot.

Thanks for the feedback!
Can't really say I agree with those 3 different perspectives though, not really sure what you're looking at.

The magazine critique might be valid, I have very little clue about calibres of bullets. I just went with the design that I was presented with (aka the movie). The scope is a part of that design, whether it makes sense or not. And the muzzle is simply smoking, not shooting. The smoke might be a bit much, or thick, but eh.

I didn't mean that the muzzle was currently firing shot, I meant the muzzle is both incredibly wide, and it seems unrifled ergo it seems like it would shoot shot.

I see the gun in 3 different perspectives, where the body is at one angle, the barrel seems bent down, and the grip and mag look twisted from the actual body.

Good looking out on the muzzle then, I'll keep that stuff in mind for the future!
As for the perspective, maybe it's the smoke or the other shapes that give it that illusion, but I drew that thing with all the lines matching up, so I'm gonna remain steadfast there. Sorry if that sounds like a cop-out.

So I just took your pic into photoshop and traced it with the pen too, and sure enough it had some problems. The Barrel was more OK then it looked to me, the main problem seems to be the scope on top doing weird things to the perspective, but the grip and the mag were really messed up.

For starters the Magazine on the bottom back, furthest away from us, is slightly wider then the bottom front which is closer to us. Also based on what I can see of the structure, the front of the grip converges almost entirely by the time it connects with the body. It also seems to be connected to the right side of the gun then the center.

Again, its a great picture. The level of detail and accuracy to Kurt Russel is astounding, but that gun has problems.

You're lightyears beyond me in terms of skill, but sometimes we can't see our own faults. I know you can do that gun photo realistically. You just need to know you aren't right now.

Hey man I'm grateful for your resilience in the matter!
I went ahead and traced it again as well and you're correct in one aspect: the grip is at a slight angle. Must have messed that up in the rendering process.
As for the mag and the positioning of the grip and such, that is just how the design on the gun was. The grip isn't perfectly centered on the body and the mag has a slightly wider plate attached at the back (presumably so one knows for sure which way to load it). The scope might seem weird, I think that's largely due to the bulky section at the front (which is actually mirrored at the back, but you can't tell cause it's behind the body of the gun). But I did mess up the angle of the grip.

Thanks again, I'll keep a closer eye out for this stuff in the future!

Snake Plissken: Absolute Badass. The detail in the muscles is really good. Makes him look really strong. The accuracy to the film is really appreciated as well. His facial expression reads tired, but will still completely slaughter you. The whole tone of the colors really plays to how bleak the film is as well. All in all, I really love this piece.

Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games, and knowing that Snake Plissken is a huge inspiration for Solid Snake, I absolutely love BOTH Escape form New York and Escape From L.A. This character is the reason that Kurt Russel is one of my favorite actors, and seeing awesome art work done of Snake makes me geek out really hard.
