F3lsworn's Profile Picture
Just a quaint little soul wandering the vast realms of life and the internet in search of answers, meaning and inspiration. Someone who wants to learn it all, but doesn't know where to start... if only there were more hours in a day.

Blessed with Asperger, ADD, OCD and an insatiable hunger for knowledge and inspiration; I'll eat anything that sparks my interest ;)

Yes, those blue specs (in the picture) were REALLY that blue. The hat was an idea from a friend who just had to take my picture with it >.> Photo was taken around 4:00 (AM) at a LAN I attended.
Trying to figure out Illustrator CS6 (for 2 days now). The learning curve has been smoothed out a bit by my knowledge of Photoshop CS6; not quite the same thing, but there are similarities which help out a bit. I've only just begun to discovering the benefits of using Illustrator over Photoshop and they're quite numerous. Unfortunately the program does not obey my wishes as I'd like it to...

I've been inspired by some people here on DA and thought I'd give it a go myself. Being the nerd that I am I've decided to design my own starship set in an alternate Star Trek universe (I can't do the original universe any just anyway). Thought it would be a grand exercise to learn Illustrator's many tools and their functions. I quickly came to the conclusion that either Illustrator is unable to do what I want it to do (line-trim, fillet/chamfer etc) or, and this is most likely the case, I'm still too noob to fully handle the program.

With my own starship on ice for the moment I decided to direct my attention to a different area in which Illustrator is king: logos. Without using the Image Trace function I attempted to 'copy' the emblems to many of the factions in Star Trek. Easier said than done as I discovered. However since I started toying with Illustrator it has become an obsession (for the moment) and I can't let go of it before I master it.

So I fired up AutoCAD and drew the emblems in there. Having graduated as a Mechanical Engineer a few years ago, I'm quite trained with ACAD and drawing the emblems perfectly accurate took hardly any effort (except for the Romulan emblem, it's proving to be quite the nightmare in both ACAD and AI). I then moved the fully line-drawn emblems to Illustrator for some post-processing. Sharp, clear and perfectly vectored emblems were the result of this AutoCAD/Illustrator collaboration. I suppose the ultimate goal for me would be to create the emblems entirely in Illustrator alone.

I'm only upoading the PNG versions to my gallery, the AI, EPS and PSD ones will have to wait.
