Karl Jochen Rindt (AUT) (Gold Leaf Team Lotus), Lotus 72C - Ford-Cosworth DFV 3.0 V8 (DNS)

In practice, while braking into the Parabolica curve at around 200 - 210mph, Jochen Rindt had swerved into a guardrail after a mechanical failure. His injuries were too severe, and he died in the ambulance, while being rushed to hospital.

A great picture of two legends. Rindt's story, becoming world champion after his death, is perhaps the saddest of F1's History.... :'(
