Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
So overall a pretty good year. I'm still working at the moment (literally, as in an hour from now I've got to go to work). Had a painful experience recently from which I'm still recovering, but since it's rarely fatal these days its no big deal (it didn't even get me out of work). Still, most of this years goals had been achieved, including making a substantial donation, about a months savings with overtime, to one of my favourite charities. In this case the Alberta Lung Association. So what does that mean to deviantART? Well I've been trying to get the government and anti-tobacco agencies more involved in the art community. The plan being to have a program where kids are taught to be more tobacco aware through art. In this case they would contribute art in a school project, the winning entrant winning an all expenses paid trip to our capital with his or her art becoming a poster that would then be circulated to all the elementary schools. In addition I'm pushing for the winning entrants poster to also be turned into a stamp issued by our post office. That would really worry the tobacco industry. Arming kids with foreknowledge is in my opinion the best way to defeat the tobacco industry. So I'm involved with this organization on a provincial level. Hopefully this can expand nationally and perhaps even internationally. Being a Canadian though I`m also a bit of a pessimist. Other organizations have taken my money and simply ignored any of my suggestions. But money does talk (it shouldn`t be, but it`s sadly true) so I`m cautiously optimistic the Lung Association will at least seriously consider my proposal. Merry Christmas.
