Mass Effect 3 Fanart - Normandy Lounge

:star:WORK IN PROGRESS & NOTES: [link]

:bulletred: 1) I know the perspective is waaay off. I did everything by eye with approximation. See Work in Progress Notes in link above.

:bulletblue: 2) I am an idiot and only found out about this room in the Normandy literally right before the final mission. I can see Shepard now, "This was here THE WHOLE TIME??"

:bulletpurple: 3) POSSIBLE SPOILERS... but I liked the Mass Effect 3 Ending. I can understand why a lot of people didn't like it but I, personally, was okay with it. During my first play through the ending, I was suspicious and confused when the credits rolled. After going through it a second time, I found the ending to be really deep (actually maybe a little too deep to the point of vague), depressing, but fitting to the science fiction theme. I'm not going to argue about meaning though. The whole "Arguing About the Ending" thing is sort of like questioning "Does God Exist?" -- The answer varies.

I play for the experience of playing and 'visiting' the awesome environments constructed by game-artists/developers. So even if the story "means nothing" in the end (which I don't believe is entirely true), I have to admit it was a fun play-through while it lasted. ...In any case, Mass Effect 2 will always be the best in my book  ... /END SPOILERS

:bulletyellow: Clint Mansell is amazing. Speaking of which, here's a less depressing version of the Mass Effect 3 Theme (Remixed): [link]

:bulletorange: ANYWAY, here is my FanArt. Thank you for reading, if you did. Will possibly paint more in the future :)

Approx. Time: 5-6 Hours (with Photoshop crashes)

At first glance, this is a very intricate and detailed piece of work, and while at second glance it appears more plain, it is still very detailed; the wall closest to the bar, if one pays proper attention, has a variety of nicks and marring that one would likely link to the actions of someone who has imbibed a tad too much.

The glow from the two various light sources noticeably fades in the image the further away from the source they are; a skilled quality, as many artists forget to make the light in their images fade in this manner. The shadowing around the coffee table seems a little 'off' to me, but that is simply a matter of personal sight, as opposed to perspective and such.

Seeing as I am not intimately familiar with the origins of this scene I cannot be certain, but it would appear that both chairs at the bar are missing a leg. If this is how the chairs are supposed to be, I apologize for bringing attention to it, but it did strike me as odd and out of place.

All in all though, this is a masterfully done piece of work, and shows a great deal of your dedication to your art, of which you are to be commended.

Well done.

Thanks! :XD: Nice attention to the chairs, but you are right! Nice catch :P I didn't think anyone would notice or that because it is on the side that is out of view
Thank you again for the critique!

this is an amazing piece. i love the details you put in to it. it looks really professional. i thought it was really part of the game at first. that's when you know this was done by an amazing artist like yourself. the perspective is spot on too! (do you do other video game related POVs? if so, i'd love to see them. you did a great job on this and i want to see what else you got) anyways, i love the shading and it's a great how good you did with the colors. i love this piece and i want to see more like it!

keep up the good work, i'll add you to my watch list!

Thank you! Yes, I have other Game Landscape Fan art, mostly for Oblivion :) You can see them through my gallery, and on the right side, choose "Landscapes". This was the first time (I think? Lol) where I painted such a flat, geometric interior though. I'm more used to painting more rounded, organic and curvy things :XD:
Which reminds me, I should probably go back in Skyrim and paint some of that stuff too :D

Its a nice piece and it shows the sci-fi theme of Mass Effect well, though the perspective is off slightly, only when you point it out you notice. Although the texture of the scratches on the walls is hard to tell, but everything else had that sleek-like feeling too it, even the lounge. The light from the window is a bit too bright though, resulting in the shadows and darkness of the rest of the scene. I'm guessing the only thing you could work on would be the perspective. Quite accurate, it portrays it greatly, thank you for the fan art.

Then you missed the drunk tali aswell... GOD DAMNIT YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT AGAIN!

Great picture, even when it feel kinda without life. Yes, I do know that in this picture theres nothing alive.
The Lightning is great, but also (as I just said) the life in it is missing . Don't know if it has to do with the lightning.
Your technique is still impressing. Really smoothy!
The only thing is that I do not have the feeling of "WOW!" (Which does not mean that I could do it better).

I gave you less stars in "Vision" and "Originality" because, well it's a room. A nice room where I actually would like to be at the moment (and srsly, it is the damn Normandy for reapers sake!) but it is still just a little room with some furniture.

And now I will start to talk about the lightning again. And again I have to say it is impressive but also I think it is the thing you should focus on. The light spots are right , thats not the "problem".

Actually the Problem is that there is no problem. It is a perfect picture. Every single pixel is done well. It is to perfect. Doug Chiang (If you do not know him google him up! Great guy, "wrote" some great books) said once that you never really should finish a picture because then it would loose it's life.

Maybe try that out. If you don't like it you still can finish it. <img src="…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>

All in all a great picture which is doing what it should do: It shows the bar room of the Normandy. It shows how it looks and how it works.

Keep up the good work, I'm looking foward to see more of your work!
Best Muun

Thanks a lot for the music link! I recommend "welcome to lunar industries" to you, also a great song from him.

Thank you very much for the honest comment and suggestions! :)
I don't know if it is because I am still not used to painting in Photoshop or that I'm a perfectionist (probably both), but I'm never sure if what I'm doing is "right", so I keep refining things. You pretty much put into words what I was trying to tell myself :XD: . I will try again in my next one. Thank you again!

I think this a great piece. The lighting affect is wonderful. Although this is FanArt, thus lacking originality, it is still an amazing work of art. Sure the prospective is a little off, but who cares? And better yet, who notices? This is a piece worth noting. I think great effort was put into this, and it shows. Your technique is great. I wish I could do things like this, in the meantime, I have to stick with lousy artwork of mine. This work is amazing and shows awesomeness.

P.S. Mass Effect is awesome and doing Fan Art for it is great.

Are you talking about the pre-Extended Cut ending, or post-EC? Because Pre-EC is depressing, plothole-ridden (even moreso than the post-EC), and completely unfulfilling. I had forewarning of how bad it was because of amenability to spoilers and I still didn't have the want to play *any* games for the rest of the day.

Hi I wanted to use this picture as a color pallet reference for a short film i'm making. I also wanted to include it in the kickstarter/indeegogo video i'm making. You will obviously be credited and so on. However if you don't want me to include this I won't.

Let me know, thanks!
