What Are Evoloons?
Evoloons are an ARPG evolution-based open species. What does it mean?ARPG is the acronym for "Art Role Playing Game". You are "playing" the role of your character by drawing it. The group is here to give you incentive to draw your character with events, challenges and the upgrade system. We will even ask you to experiment with mediums you might not be familiar with, as one of our goals is to encourage your artistic improvement. Because it's a RPG game, your will have to follow rules to create your Evoloon characters and to change them.
Evolution-based mean that an Evoloon appearance can change with upgrades. Evoloons start with simplistic features and by doing art, or by waiting a set amount of time; you can evolve them into more complex and interesting characters. To change the appearance of your Evoloon, you will need to follow the rules, because that is the point of the game.
Evoloons are an open species, meaning you can create your characters for free! But, it doesn't mean you can create them to look any way you wish. To have an official Evoloon accepted by the group, you will need to follow the rules of creation and upgrades.
Can I make an Evoloon without following the rules?
If you do, we won't accept your Evoloon artworks in the group. Your character will not be a part of the official Evoloon community.
Do Evoloons have a gender?
Evoloons don't have genitalia. It's up to you to give your Evoloons a gender that will define their personality. They are not required to have a gender.
How Evoloons are made and how they are born?
Evoloons come from the imagination of their maker (it means you!). They are hatched from eggs.
Can Evoloons be twins and would they come for the same egg or from twin eggs?
Yes, Evoloons can be twins. Whether they are hatched from the same egg or not is up to you.
Can Evoloons be born with birth defects?
Not if it changes their anatomy. Evoloons, for example, cannot be born with a missing limb or with white (blind) eyes. If your Evoloon is blind but still has the mandatory colored eyes, it's OK.
What to do when you are changing accounts?

Reference sheets
Reference sheets have been replaced by trackers, but you can still make them as you wish. Reference sheets must be submitted in the Trackers and ref-sheets folder. Your Evoloon must be approved before you can submit its ref-sheet. You can use our template.Evoloon tracker
A tracker is required if you want to register your Evoloon. You can submit your trackers in the Trackers and ref-sheets folder, but you don't have to.Official Tracker Template

Can I give accessories to my Evoloon?
Yes, you can give accessories, but they must not be shown in your approval sheet. Accessories cannot be added to mimic an upgrade (example: fake tail, fake antlers).
Can I remove my Evoloon's markings?
Yes, you can remove your Evoloon's special markings. It doesn't include the special patterns of a safari Evoloon (stripes, spots...).
Can I remove or change my Evoloon's upgrades?
Upgrades can be removed and put back at will. The appearance of an upgrade can also be changed, as long as it stays in the same category. For example, you cannot change a mammal tail for a fish tail unless you have also earned the fish tail upgrade.
If an upgrade requires that I draw multiple Evoloons, can I draw them on the same deviation?
Yes, unless the upgrade description says otherwise. Example, you cannot put 20 Evoloons in a single 50x50 pixel icon.
Art Rules
In order to be part of the Evoloon ARPG and get the rewards (magic, items, quest points, etc.), it is important that any artwork can be made available to the crew. Therefore, we do not accept private images (in ToyHouse), Watcher-only images (ToyHouse and DA) or paid content (DA). On DeviantArt, blurred images will be removed from the group, so you might lose the rewards or advantages related to them. Please keep your Evoloon art accessible. For events and for some upgrades, your artwork will need to follow some of the following rules.
Full body/visibility
Visibility RuleKater and the fullbody quest
Shading
Shading must be easy to see and must be applied to all the characters and the background if a background is drawn.Evoloons: A guide about shading
Background
Background must represent an environment (forest, beach, room, etc.) and must have depth (multiple planes, perspective, etc.) The background must be drawn by you. It cannot be a pre-made background, a photograph (digitally processed or not) or something made with brushes or other resources. You can use brushes for things like stars, grass or leaves, but you cannot use brushes/patterns for trees, furniture, mountains and other complex environment elements.Minimal art requirement to get magic
To get magic from an artwork, it must be lined and colored (or lineless). The lines (or outlines) must be clean, and the coloring full. Uncolored lineart, sketches and scribbled coloring don't grant magic. The Evoloon must also be recognizable. Grey scale and monochrome coloring are accepted as long as each different color of the Evoloon is represented by a different tone.Art requirement for upgrades
"Action" art to gain an upgrade must follow the minimal art requirement to get magic and must must follow the Visibility Rule.Art requirement for events
Each event has its own set of rules, but it always requires lined and colored (or lineless) art. The lines (or outlines) must be clean, and the coloring full. Uncolored lineart, sketches and scribbled coloring are not accepted. The Evoloon must also be recognizable. Can I draw my Evoloon in anthro/bipedal form?
You are free to draw your Evoloon in any form as your personal art, but unless your Evoloon has the "Different Body" upgrade, it won't count for love magic. Can I draw my Evoloon as another species?
Only as personal art. It won't count for love magic.
Can I use bases for Evoloons?
You can use your own base for your approval art, reference sheet and personal art, but it will not reward any magic. You cannot use bases for art to get upgrades or for events, prompts and trials. The Official Evoloon Bases can be used for you approval art and reference sheet and like your own base will not grant magic.
A base is a line art that is reused for different characters.
Mature Art
Art flagged as mature is allowed for personal art only. Please refrain from submitting mature art for the group activities as mature art are blocked in comments and not all mods might want to see mature art as well. If you want to submit mature art in the group, make sure it is properly flagged.
Love and Gift Magic
Magic Count SystemMagic Count Examples
GM Tracker Template
How do I count the magic earned from the background when multiple Evoloons are in the artwork?
Each Evoloon gets the points for the background. For example, if in your artwork, you have 3 shaded Evoloons, each Evoloon will earn 6 points: 2 for the inking and coloring, 1 for the shading and 3 for the background.
Is the magic consumed when an upgrade is added to the Evoloon?
No, magic is like experience points for a game character. It is stacked and never consumed.
How do magic works if I have my own Evoloons and other people's Evoloons in the same picture?
You get both love magic from (and for) your own Evoloons and gift magic from other people's Evoloons. No magic goes to other people's evoloons.
How do I distribute gift magic to my evoloons? Can I split gift magic between two loons or more? Is the gift magic shared between my evoloons? Can I transfer my gift magic to another of my Evoloon, if not used?
Gift magic is not shared between evoloons (unless two evoloons are heart-bonded). Once attributed to an evoloon, the gift magic belongs to that loon and cannot be transferred. Therefore, we suggest that you keep a separate tracker for your gift magic and give them, or a portion of them, to one of your Evoloon only when needed.
Gift magic received by doing an Action for an upgrade must be given to the same evoloon who will receive the upgrade.
When two evoloons are heart-bonded, their gift magic is shared between them.
Are collaborations allowed?
Collaborations are allowed for personal art and in some events (when it is mentioned). Collaborations are not allowed in our official activities.
How do I calculate love and gift magic in a collaboration?
For the love magic, calculate the total of love magic earned by each evoloon, including the bonuses if any, then split the amount evenly between each evoloon. For the gift magic, use the same total as the love magic, but split it evenly between each artist. You can find a detailed example in How to Calculate Magic : The Master Guide.

Moving to Another Account
When you are switching accounts, the first and foremost thing to do is keep all time sensitive art in your old account.Time sensitive art is:
- The original approval sheet
- Event and prompt art
What if I delete/put in storage my time sensitive images or close my old account, and re-post those images on my new account?
Then the Evoloon will potentially cease to exist, and/or lose any upgrades and participation it had earned. If you do delete the original images, put them in storage or close your old account, please let us know, we may be able to work something out.
So how do I move accounts?
You must make a tracker for your Evoloon(s) on your new account. In the description put the links to all the time sensitive art from the original account. Art that is not time sensitive (general art, upgrade art, gift art, etc.) can be uploaded onto the new account, or links from the old account can be added in the description of the tacker.
Remember that art uploaded to sta.sh or an external site will not count for any magic.
What about art for an Evoloon I traded away or received in a trade?
The same process is still necessary, even if you no longer own the Evoloon. The new owner needs the proof too. If someone traded or gave you an Evoloon and then deleted any art of it, please let us know, we may be able to work something out.
If this is not your first time moving accounts, the process is still the same except:
- You may need to link images from multiple accounts instead of just one.
- The previous tracker(s) from your other move(s) will need to remain on your old account(s) and linked to the new one(s).
