Final chapter of my Halloween story! :la:

Halloween 2023 - 32/32Disclamers: As can be told, I don't own anything of Legend of Zelda.Notions: So, as can be guessed, there's going to be 32 chapters in overall. Two Dark Links: So, Darky, the younger one, is my version of Dark Link. The older one, Dark, is by carrie-j (https://www.deviantart.com/carrie-j) . Yet, they won't be much of other than a mention or memory until the last chapter. Other stuff: Story's placed on Ocarina of Time's Hyrule and all that. Dunno if this would be part of my CaH saga... Though, it starts to look more as part of CaH saga of mine than not. Monsters: Dead Hand. I'm sure that's enough said-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-Chapter 32: RescueLink woke up screaming while shooting his eyes wide open and bolting straight up. “Link!” Someone half shouted as he already felt hands on him to push him down. He blinked several times while breathing heavily. The hands were gently forcing him down onto something soft. He frowned while still blinking and trying to make some sense to his surroundings.Slowly his eyesight cleared from the pure darkness he had been in. The white walls and ceiling came into his sight. Next his notion fell into the figure by him. He frowned even more while blinking and getting his gaze adjusted to the situation around him. “Dark?” He called out in near whisper. He noticed the person sigh and relax fully before nodding.“Can you hear me?” The red eyed Hylian inquired by him. The Hero of Time nodded slowly while still frowning. He let his eyes wander around the area and slowly the realization hit him. He was at the Infirmary, laying on a bed and a breathing mask over his face. He sighed and relaxed while closing his eyes. He was safe and alive. That was all that really mattered at the moment. “Duckling…?” Dark called worriedly and Link opened his eyes with a small smile.“I’m okay.” He thought out while fully wishing his brother would read his mind this time around. His smile widened a bit as he noticed the dark Hylian relax a bit more and nodding.“At least I can hear your thoughts again.” Dark told with a slight grin. Yet, that look soon vanished as he sighed and bit slumped. “Haven’t been able to read your mind since we found you from that swamp yesterday.” He told sorrowfully while bit wondering if he should continue.Link frowned again in confusion. “Swamp?” He questioned before slowly shaking his head. “No… There was a swamp for a while but… I moved past it…” He told while staring at the ceiling with a deepening frown. Dark was just going to answer but he too started to frown as he caught the flashes of what his brother had been going through for the past thirty-two hours. He shuddered at some points but he stayed silent while waiting for the Hero to continue.Eventually the golden haired Hylian sighed heavily and closed his eyes as he shook his head. “I can’t remember much.” He admitted bit sorrowfully. “I recall leaving the castle and coming to Lake Hylia. Left Epona to…” He continued before shooting his eyes open in shock and worry.“Nothing to worry for, bro. She’s still at the ranch you left her to.” Dark told calmly with a small smile. “She might be starting to wonder where you are but I’m sure Darky will explain all to her once he fetches her home.” He continued while reassuring Link of the situation.“Where is Darky?” Link queried while raising an eyebrow.“Checking the place where we found you from.” Dark answered as calmly as he could. “I can check if he hears me if you’d like.” He offered and his brother nodded once. Dark nodded back, took once a deep breath and closed his eyes to concentrate better. “Darky, can you hear me?” He called out through the mind talking of Shadows.“Loud and clear. How’s Link?” Darky replied surprisingly calmly.Dark sighed in relief and nodded to Link. “Got connection.” He told before going back to the conversation. “Awake and asking about you.” He replied to his youngest brother. “How are you doing? Did you find what was the fault of the foul air?” He inquired while needing to know for both his and his younger brother’s sake. Link stayed silent while watching his brother carefully and searching for any answers along with possible questions he’d be asking.“That’s a relief.” Darky answered with a clear sigh within his words. “Actually, I’m coming back to castle as we speak so I’ll explain everything soon. Though, I gotta report to Zelda first, obviously.” He continued calmly. “And let our bro know that Epona’s with me too and that I’ve explained all to her.” The younger dark Hylian told with a smile before telling to the mare trotting by him and Storm that her owner was safe and sound as well as fully awake.Dark smiled and nodded to Link. “Glad to hear. We’ll be eager to know what was the cause of Link’s state for certain.” He replied to Darky before cutting the connection. “Darky’s okay and heading back here as we speak. He’ll inform Zelda first, though. And he’s bringing Epona with him to the stables along with telling her that you’re okay.” He explained calmly before bit frowning. “Your turn, bro. What happened?”Link sighed and relaxed a bit while closing his eyes again. “I’m not sure.” He replied while starting to frown again. “I remember a swamp. Then… My memory’s bit foggy but eventually I found myself from an odd forest and…” The Hero started before trailing off. He opened his eyes while frowning even deeper. He stared at the ceiling once again while trying to figure things out. “Was it all just fake? Just in my own head? What did I go through?” He queried while not really waiting for an answer to any of the questions.Dark felt at loss of words. He wanted to help but he had no idea of what had happened. Eventually he sighed heavily. “We found you from a swamp. The air was odd… Foul, to be exact. Darky pulled both me and himself into Shadows to stay out of breathing it.” He started calmly while turning his gaze off of his brother. Yet, he felt the interested gaze on him.“We found you trying to get up from the knee deep water. It was clear you were struggling to handle even such simple action.” The dark Hylian told while recalling the situation and trying to keep his emotions in check. “You crashed back down and by the time we got to your side, you were unconscious. Darky pulled partly onto Ghost Form to get you up and we dashed out. He sent me back to castle with you. After all, he’s better with Shadow abilities and on that way better at checking for what caused the situation. We needed answers after all.” He continued and closed his eyes sorrowfully.“You woke up while I was riding as fast as Cirrus could go.” He told and shook his head. “You didn’t hear me. You couldn’t even feel me there. You just didn’t react to me in any of way.” His voice broke and he needed to take few deep breaths to calm down.“Darky had sent a Shadow ahead to inform doc about the situation.” Dark explained and shrugged. “All we could do was to give you clean air and hope for the best. Doc didn’t find any of wounds around your body nor anything wrong with your blood.” He held back the growl of frustration. “I’ve been next to you whole this time. And…. You woke up few times but…” He trailed off and sighed heavily. “You still didn’t react to anything when you woke up few times. You looked straight at me but you just didn’t recognize me.” The dark Hylian explained with wavering voice before hiding his face into his hands. He didn’t want to break down but he couldn’t help it either. Those situations had hurt and left him feel helpless.Link sighed heavily and carefully sat up before already hugging his brother. “I’m sorry, big bro.” He told sorrowfully while closing his eyes. “I don’t know what happened… I… I didn’t even notice anything being wrong with the air…” He explained and bit smiled when Dark leaned into the hold and hugged him back very tightly, almost desperately.“Not your fault, Duckling.” Dark replied while slowly calming down as he knew for certain of his brother being alright again. “We’ll know more once Darky comes over.” He told before pulling off from the hold and taking once a deep breath. “You want to tell me what you’ve gone through in your head? Couldn’t read a damn thing from there while you were out cold.” He inquired while feeling slight bit hopeful.Link nodded and laid back down while closing his eyes. “Can you share this to Darky too? Not exactly eager of repeating it all once he comes here.” He half pleaded while opening one eye to look at his brother. Dark nodded and quickly informed Darky of the situation and what to wait for.Darky replied with simple “Let it come.” And Dark informed the Hero of being ready for the exchange. Link nodded back, took once a deep breath and while letting it out, he closed his eyes. After that he started to recap everything he had gone through starting from the odd forest and ending with the death at the jaws of Dead Hand. The trio of Hylians all shivered violently at the thought of getting eaten alive by that hideous abomination.“Glad that wasn’t real.” Dark finally stated out after Link finished his explanation. The Hero simply nodded before inquiring how long it was since they had found him. “About thirty-two hours.” The dark Hylian replied sorrowfully. Link winced at the reply before looking sheepish. “Not your fault, bro. None of this is.” The oldest brother of the three warriors told with a small reassuring smile and the middle one simply nodded.Sometime later the youngest came over and sat down onto the bed to Link’s other side. “So, I guess you’re eager to know how things been going, right?” He queried and got a nod from his older brother. The younger dark Hylian took once a deep breath and started to explain.Dark and Darky had, as Link knew of, gone to deal with some Shadow problem at the outskirt of the kingdom. It had been long and strenuous situation and he had needed to keep the Part-Shadow aka his oldest brother calm and collected along with clearing the situation. He didn’t want to go too far into the details but it turned out that the Shadows in question had actually come from Dark’s Hyrule and hence weren’t in equally good terms with how things were going at his and Link’s Hyrule.Once they had returned to the castle, it had been late. At the moment they hadn’t paid much of notion to Link’s absence. He was a Hero after all, so they thought he had been either held back or gained a mission or something. Yet, Darky woke up in middle of the night to very odd and strange feeling. Something that very much freaked the hell out of him.He had thoroughly lost contact to Link. It felt like the Hero had vanished from the face of the earth. Gone but not exactly dead.Darky had woken Dark up in near panic and the duo had left the castle in haste. The younger dark Hylian followed his feelings and that brought them to Lake Hylia. The second they were there, the duo already jumped off from their steeds and, with Darky in lead, they dashed into the forest. The second the Half-Shadow, aka the younger one, realized the strange air, he forced his oldest brother and himself into the Realm of Shadows. The ruby eyed youngest brother skipped the part which the oldest had already explained. “So, Dark’s prolly filled you in on how you were found.” He stated out and went forward into telling how things had gone once Dark had left with unconscious Link back to castle. The Half-Shadow had gone back to the point where they had found the Hero struggling to get up from the swamp water. He stopped and closed his eyes before taking once a deep breath and concentrating.“From Shadows to Shadows,Hear my call.I call for those that know this Swamp,Come forth and tell me what I need. From Shadows to Shadows,I call for you aid. What is this foul air,The one only Shadows can know of?From Shadows to Shadows,Hear my call. The Hero of Light has fallen victim of this Swamp,How do we save him?” Darky spoke calmly and clearly. It wasn’t the first time he half prayed, half requested for the close by Shadows to approach him. When he opened his eyes after finishing his words, there was a formless True Shadow in front of him. Their gazes met and the being nodded once. Without a word, the Half-Shadow started to follow the being deeper into the swamp.“The Hero of Light will be fine.” The True Shadow reassured. “The air traps him into his own mind. Brings out harsh hell from the fears and subconscious mind. But, once out of this swamp, and with clean air, he will wake up from this trap.” The being explained before sighing a bit. “This is protection magic.” It told before chuckling humorlessly. “Bit harsh one, if you ask from us.” The formless column of black smoke shrugged. “Yet, it does as it is supposed to. Keeps unwanted beings out. We are the ones whom drag the poor souls out from here when the magic is activated. Yet, you and the Part-Shadow got to him before us.”Darky listened silently while frowning. He still needed answers but he didn’t want to push his guide. Luckily, he didn’t need to ask questions as the True Shadow was willing to tell all it knew. “The problem is that we cannot do a thing to prevent the activation of the magic. Unlike you and the Part-Shadow, we cannot touch the item. You and the Part-Shadow… You two walk in the Realm of Light as well as in the Realm of Shadows. This gives you the rights to undo the magic us dwellers of the Realm of Shadows do not have.” It explained and stopped in front of an old Temple. “Only one room but it is plenty.”The Half-Shadow frowned slightly but he nodded. Yet, he didn’t enter the place. Instead, he turned to look at the True Shadow and simply waited. “This was a home for a kind Shadow Sorceress.” The being told sorrowfully. “I never met her but many of others have. She wanted a better home for us. A chance to move within the Realm of Light without harm. She was Half-Shadow by blood. Our kind aided her to create this sanctuary. The used magic is partly ours, partly hers.” The formless column of black mist explained and turned its gaze to the doorway. “Unlike you, I cannot enter the house. I do not know what the item is but I am certain you will find it.” The True Shadow confessed and turned to look at Darky. “Find it and destroy it. It has no use anymore.”The Half-Shadow nodded and turned his gaze to the door. He took once a deep breath and moved to open it. He waited for some kind of protection around the place but nothing stopped him from swinging the door open. He glanced once at the True Shadow before entering the old Temple. In middle of the room, above a very beautifully decorated short pillar, was a smoky colored pearl. Otherwise the room was entirely empty. The floor and walls were made of watery blue tiles. The ceiling seemed oddly normal compared to the rest of the area.Darky closed his eyes for a moment and called out his Shadow Powers. As he opened his eyes, they were glowing. He took a very careful look around the room but he couldn’t find a thing being different compared to how he saw with normal sight. He took once a deep breath, closed his eyes and let the enhanced sight fall off. After that he walked to the pillar and took a better check of the decorations. He shivered at the rough pictures of different kinds of deaths in the hands of monsters. At the moment he had no idea that his older brother was going through more or less on what was being described on three sides of the pillar he was checking through. On the last part the pictures changed dramatically. He straight off recognized the mark of the Triforce and the Master Sword. Yet, the last one was harder to decipher. He thought it was lighting but somehow he doubted it. Suddenly he facepalmed as he realized what it was meaning.Darky left the room with a sigh. He was grateful that the True Shadow was still there waiting for him. “I can’t destroy it. And yet, I can’t bring the right person to here to break it either.” He explained while feeling defeated of the situation. The dark Hylian wanted to take down the magic as it was already confirmed of not being needed and yet… He couldn’t bring Link back here. Not when he couldn’t reach the place without getting affected by the foul air.“Bring the item out.” The True Shadow almost commanded. “I can create a shell around it so you can safely take it to the one whom can destroy it.” It told calmly. Darky nodded and returned into the Temple. Bit worriedly he picked the sphere up and backed off by couple of steps. Suddenly the place started to tremble and break into pieces. The Half-Shadow dashed out while the old Temple came crashing down. The True Shadow didn’t even flinch as the old building was thoroughly destroyed right next to it.Darky took few moments to calm down before offering the pearl to the formless Shadow. The being took the thing gently and looked surprisingly lovingly at the round object. “It is a shame to destroy this but it must be done. This area needs no protection anymore and as long as Shadow Sphere exists, it keeps defending this area.” The True Shadow told sorrowfully while creating a glowing blue shell around the shadowy pearl. “Make sure it will be destroyed as soon as possible.” The being almost begged as it gave the sphere back to the Half-Shadow. Darky simply nodded and left back to the castle after that. Now, at the Infirmary of the castle, he pulled the shadowy pearl out. “Hate to say this, but you’re the only to break that thing, Link.” He told and nodded towards the Master Sword by the bed.Link chuckled and shook his head. “Hero’s work is never done, huh?” He half inquired while sitting up before picking his sword and unsheathing it. “Place it on the floor so I can stab it. The faster this is done, the better.” Darky nodded and put the thing on the floor close enough to be struck at. “Hate to destroy something that beautiful but can’t help it.” The Hero half mumbled before taking couple of deep breaths until half growling, half giving out a battle cry and stabbed the blade through the shadowy pearl. The sphere shattered into thousands of small pieces before already starting to vanish into half black, half grey smoke. Back at Lake Hylia the swamp flashed once with bright light to indicate of the magic having been lifted from it. “Guess that’s all, then.” Link half stated while putting the sword away and laying back down. After that he pulled both of his brothers down and hugged them close. “Best dreams come with you two by me.” He told with a wide smile and started to relax before falling asleep with his dreams being safe and sweet.THE END...

The white, thin arms with red blobs in them were absolute indication for something he had prayed never to face again. He was fully frozen to his place as he stared at what he would be facing next.It took quite a while before he finally was able to move. He barely had even been breathing but slowly he regained his determination. Even though he dreaded the whole idea and way of fighting, he started to approach the long hands. Yet, he still stopped right before their reach. The Hero was trembling visibly. His breathing was shallow and fast. The pure terror was written on his face. The beast he was to face was still somewhere beneath the floor but he couldn’t make himself move forward. Everything he had so far faced had been something strange and out of acting the normal way. This Dead Hand he was to face next… He didn’t want to think about it. He didn’t want to even consider how it would eat him alive. And still, part of him knew it would be what would happen. Unlike before, those freaky hands wouldn’t let him free. He just knew it. But, no matter how much he wanted to deny it, he had no other choice than to let those hands grab him. It was the only road forward to face the monster. The swordsman sighed heavily in absolute defeat. He drew out the Master Sword and took once a deep breath. While letting it out slowly, he started to walk again. He desperately tried not to look at those hands as they turned towards him as he moved past them. The moment he was far enough between them, they finally latched onto his body. The hands quickly found their places. Four snatched a hold of his legs, two to both. Equal amount went for his arms while yanking them behind his back. Surprisingly, that was all the beast needed to restrain him.Link tried to calm down and ease out his breathing. The more relaxed he would be, the lesser the hold. For his absolute shock, it actually worked and he could feel the iron grip loosen up a bit. “Maybe I still have some hope…” He thought and tried not to flinch as he heard the deformed blob of white and red appear behind him. He shivered while thinking about those short and sharp stubs of arms and that overly wide mouth and long neck. He slightly shook his head and closed his eyes while listening to the creature approach him. “Just get ready. Stay calm.” He kept repeating the words in his head while trying to mentally get prepared to attack. He listened carefully for the quiet screeching sound as the beast moved. The closer it came, the harder it was to stay calm and relaxed. He could feel the hold of the hands tighten whenever he either slightly moved or tensed up. He closed his eyes and concentrated into his breathing while listening to the abomination approach him.The second the Dead Hand was within his attack’s reach, the swordsman screamed out and moved fast. He yanked his arms free and turned around while already slashed. He cut the hands down to get bit more of time before he struck the hideous beast. He managed to land few strong strikes before the hands reacted and took hold of him again. This time he was knocked to his knees. Yet, with such a position, the creature wasn’t fully capable of keeping his legs fully secured from moving. It was the only good thing in the situation while there were more hands to hold his arms behind his back. And still, as he evened out his breathing and forced himself to relax, the hold loosed again. He fought the grin off from his face so that the monster wouldn’t realize its own mistake there. As the Dead Hand reappeared and approached him, he readied for another attack. This time, due to his harder position, he allowed the creature to get closer. He needed to make sure he’d get a hit or few into his actual target. When he was certain of the distance being right for his plan, he quickly forced himself into backwards somersault even though it brought him closer to his enemy. Still, that was exactly the way of getting free from the hold and to stand up. As he turned around, he already unleashed a quick Spin Attack without the magic needed for it. It cut the arms down and allowed him a clear attacking line into his target.Once he had landed three cruelly hard swipes of Master Sword into the back of the retreating beast, it vanished underneath the floor and the hands came back up. As it’s said, ‘Third time’s charm’, the beast was far wiser and struck hard. He had no chances of avoiding what was to come next.Link screamed when the hands pulled his legs from underneath him and crashed him harshly onto his back while knocking some of his air out at the same time. Several more struck onto his arms and held with iron grip. Few slammed roughly onto his chest and abdomen to hold him down. He gasped out at the hit and nearly fought to breathe as the hands felt like crushing him against the floor. One hand took painfully strong grip of his head while one more rounded around his throat and started to choke him.The Hero trashed and fought to get free. This had never happened before and he was panicking. He couldn’t move his sword to cut the arms holding him down. He barely could breathe as the hand on his throat kept tightening its hold. Even his chest was being crushed and hardening his attempts at breathing. While he fought against the hold, the Dead Hand returned. It moved smoothly past the arms without their hold faltering even one bit. Suddenly it leaned downwards and struck those sharp stumps into his right shoulder and an area on his chest beneath his left shoulder. He screamed out even though it stole the rest of his air by that. And then, much to his horror, the beast opened its mouth and bit down onto his upper arm, just right after where the protective chainmail ended.Link screamed even harder as the monster fully started to eat him alive. He trashed and fought but couldn’t do a thing. He couldn’t move as the beast came for another bite with a clear cruel smirk on its face. This time it bit to same place while gnawing at the bone and remaining flesh. Once it was done, the rest of his left arm was entirely cut from the rest of his body.He was whimpering and crying at the pain, terror and horror of the situation. He was feeling sick but he couldn’t tear his gaze off of the monster’s face. It looked so damn pleased with its work as it chewed while the Hero’s blood was dripping from its mouth. Then its head turned back to him and those jaws opened up again. Suddenly the hand around his throat let go and moved off. He couldn’t help but inhale sharply at the air while somehow still hoping to fight… Until the Dead Hand’s mouth closed around his throat and bit.

Inspiration: A comic called Locked by Atwotonedbird-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-Chapter 30: LockedLink growled in anger as he walked to the locked door. He glared at the blocked road with such intensity that could easily bring out the wording: ‘If looks could kill’. Unfortunately, that didn’t faze the offending piece of metal in any of way. As he moved closer to the thing, he drew out his Master Sword. With a raged scream, he slashed HARD at the chains and lock.He didn’t leave it into one strike. He kept attacking the blockage over and over while listening to the rattling of the silvery colored loops. Yet, like before, his strikes did nothing to the restraints in front of the doorway. Not even one scrape was in sight. He was breathing heavily by the time he stopped swinging the blade. He growled even louder as he realized how futile his work had been. While having used pretty much all of his strength into his actions, he slumped down to the floor. Slowly, feeling quite defeated, he sheathed the sacred weapon. After a moment of calming down, the Hero started to go through his pockets. Maybe, just maybe, he could have something that he could use. When he pulled the bomb out, he grinned… And fully hoped that the area was wide enough to be out of the explosion’s way.He placed the bomb right next to the doorway and, with difficulty, set a fire onto the fuse. Luckily he still remembered the old ways of doing a fire like striking a spark with metal of a sword and rocks. Once the short fuse was burning, he dashed away from it to be as far as possible. He crouched down and brought his hands to his ears to block most of the boom that was to come soon along with getting ready for the rough wind that would follow it.For once the luck was on his side. The explosion happened far enough to keep him from being caught in the blast. Even the wind didn’t strike at him as hard as in that one specific room a while earlier. Once the danger was over, he slowly opened his eyes and took his hands from his ears. He turned around and went to check if the bomb had been any of help for him.He screamed and kicked at the chains. The bomb hadn’t done a thing to the metal. Right then and there he very much wished he had Din’s Fire in his use. He would absolutely melt the offending chains off at then and there without caring how much of damage it would do to him.Sighing, he sat down and leaned against the chains behind him. He let his cerulean gaze rise into the darkness above him. He needed a key but he had no idea of where to start searching for such. In fact, he wasn’t even really that eager of starting such trek. Yet, with a heavy sigh, he stood up and started to go around the area in search of anything that could be out of place.Unfortunately, he came back to the door empty handed. No leavers or buttons anywhere. No chests in sight that could hold a key. Nothing that could aid him forward. Just as he was going to sit back down, a leathery sound caught his notion. “A Keese.” He thought with a scowl and drew out his bow and arrows. “Not in the mood!” He screamed out and already took aim while searching for the bat like beast.Yet, as his gaze fell into the monster, he started to frown. It wasn’t normal. And it wasn’t elemental either. In fact, its tail looked odd with a metal hook in there. But, as he realized the situation, he started to smirk widely. “Oh, come and get me if you dare.” He called out to the flying creature while putting his weapons off.The Keese hovered out of reach for a while before it screeched and dove down. Link quickly moved aside as the creature swung its odd tail. “Fool.” He stated out while taking hold of the monster. He quickly closed one hand around the snout to keep it from biting. The other hand went for the swishing tail. “I just need this part for a moment.” He told calmly while half slamming the Keese against the chains and leaning against the small creature. After that he started to work the struggling being’s tail into the lock and twisted and turned in desperate try to unlock it.For his joy and shock the lock clicked and opened up. The Hero quickly backed off while still somehow holding on to the struggling bat-like monster. He chuckled as the chains slipped away and revealed a free path forward. “You’re lucky. I’ll let you live.” He told and half threw the Keese from his hold before already opening the door. He didn’t want to give the creature a chance to regain its bearings and attack. Yet, his smile and good mood died the second he saw the thin white arms around the room.

He had tried to dry off and gather back his strength but neither had worked out. Not even a cookie had aided on his mood or his stamina. For a while he had thought about just walking around in search of another way forward but eventually he threw that idea out. So far there hadn’t been much of other than straight forward roads and now… Well, the next ‘straight forward’ way was climbing. He simply wished that there weren’t more of those flying lizard warriors. It would be way too hard to fight them off while climbing. Not to mention there didn’t seem to be much of ledges to stand on to even entertain the idea of fighting.Whenever he glanced upwards, all he could see was the uneven wall he needed to climb up and darkness where it all vanished into. He had no idea of how long the climb would be. He simply wished the darkness was as much of illusion as the earlier bits of fakeness he had so far encountered. And yet, he fully doubted his luck. Nothing ever was that easy. The Hero simply concentrated into finding the needed pieces of uneven rock to place his hands and feet onto. The work was slow but he was making a steady progress forward. The start itself had been hard enough with slipping every now and then due to the wetness of having fallen into the water a while ago. It had made things seriously treacherous but luckily it had simply been in the beginning. At least the fall would’ve been easy to deal with. Maybe he would’ve even gotten off with just bruises. Yet, luckily, he hadn’t fallen and he was still going upwards. He tried to listen to his surroundings but the eerie silence was all that met him once again. It was way too unnerving to deal with at the moment so he put his notion fully into his breathing and climbing. Just searching for next piece big enough to get a grip of was far more important that the surroundings besides the uneven wall to climb. The cerulean eyed Hylian tried to gather his strength back whenever there came small ledges for his usage. It just barely was enough to have one foot on it but it was something to use. He evened out his breathing at each turn. Sadly, it didn’t do much for his strength and stamina. Yet, he forced himself to continue. “Just a while longer. You’ll be up before you know it.” He kept telling to himself as he glanced upwards and saw no difference to what it had looked like when he checked from the ground before the start of climbing. Even though it was futile attempt of reassure himself of managing with the task, he still kept the words going circles in his head. Maybe, sooner or later, he’d believe the words. The climb continued and the less he had strength, the easier it was to ignore the silence around him. The only thing good in the soundlessness was the fact that it fully indicated for the lack of monsters. At least any flying lizards and Keese weren’t anywhere close by. It was a small relief for him, but it was something to be grateful of anyways.Suddenly he gasped in near terror as a small ledge gave out underneath him. As he started to fall with the pieces of rocks, he instinctively jumped upwards. He almost scratched at the wall’s surface in desperate search for something to take a hold of. A full sigh of relief escaped from him as he got a hold of a small piece of rock. He was quick to search footing and another place for his other hand.He stayed on his place for a moment to calm down. After that, while shaking out of the shock and of lack of strength, he forced himself to continue. “If the top doesn’t come soon, I’m probably going to fall into my death…” He thought miserably while putting way too much into dragging himself upwards. At some point he closed his eyes and just continued forward with sheer willpower. He let his hands scrape against the rugged surface in search of piece of rock to place his hand onto. He gasped and shot his eyes open when he felt something much smoother than before. He stayed still for a moment before slowly raising his gaze up and tapping the unexpected surface with his hand. The second his mind registered what his eyes were seeing, he smiled widely. The sight of the end of his climb was something that quickly renewed his strength. It didn’t take than bit of pulling and he finally dragged himself over the edge onto a straight, smooth surface of the area. He soon flopped down onto his back and closed his eyes while just breathing. It took quite a while before he calmed down and gained any of strength back. Finally, when he felt like he could move again, he slowly sat up. The golden haired swordsman started to take a good look around. He slightly had feared for a monster or few to be around but luckily the area was free of them. Yet, he groaned the second his gaze fell into the road forward. Door. Chains. And boss-level like lock.

The creature shrieked as its attack clanged into the Hylian Shield. It flew back up and swiftly turned around before already going for a new dive.He kept blocking the attacks while praying to stay in the cart as it kept moving fast on the tracks. As the thing came to a long climb, the speed slowed down and he quickly laid down to his back while holding his legs against the short end part of the cart. The flying creature screamed and attacked. It kept flying above the opening of the cart while slashing over and over again. Lucky for the Hero, each hit clanged into the shield as he tried to defend himself.Suddenly the cart found the top of the slope and the next thing he knew, he slid to the other end of the cart as it tipped. Way too soon he already was struck back to other end as the speed struck in. It was a pure miracle he didn’t go flying out of his transport. Yet, the change in the speed and angle had left the flying Lizalfos behind. Nonetheless, it was quick to dive after its opponent. The cart was wheeling roughly in turns and getting him to slide from side to side. Whenever he had a chance to try and get up, the road already made a turn and knocked his attempts off. Though, there was one good thing to that. The beast couldn’t attack either as the changes in the pathway came too fast for it get a strike in.As he couldn’t see where the cart was going, he didn’t get prepared even one bit for a jump. He was utterly taken off guard when he was suddenly lifted off from the cart’s floor. He gasped slightly while his eyes widened at the shock. All of sudden his transportation was gone from around him and way too soon he fell back first into the darkness below him.Link screamed but that sound died as soon as he saw the beast dive at him. Not having anything of better to do, he readied for the aerial battle. The creature slashed and he countered with the shield before already striking with his sword. The monster managed to avoid off the way before coming for a new dive. Before they collided for another few strikes, he hit back first into something hard and almost smooth. He gasped in shock and pain as he could make out the crude planks of new moving transport thing. There were no walls on the piece but it too was moving on those silvery tracks. As soon as he had gained his breathing and ability to move back, the Aeralfos was already there. For a while they exchanged attacks while the swordsman was laying on his back. He tried to kick the creature few times but the only thing he could hit was the tail. The swords and shields kept clanging together. It was hard to battle when he didn’t have any of room to move around. And it sure as hell didn’t help to be on his back. And then the few planks on four wheels tipped and dropped him off of its surface. Link let out a curse while already trying to turn around to face the beast that still kept harassing him. He hoped for a safer place to crash into this time around as he concentrated into the monster that kept diving at him over and over again.By the time he crashed through the water’s surface, neither had managed to land a strike into the other. Link let himself get submerged as deep as possible. He could see the odd flying Lizalfos hovering above the surface while searching for him. Carefully, while somehow holding on to the small amount of air he had, he put the weapons off and swam away from the current place. He had no idea where would be any of shore but he swam as far as he could before quietly breaking through the surface. The beast was still at the same area while the Hero started to swim as quietly as possible. He kept close eye on the creature while making as quick work of moving as he could. The rough shore came forth faster than he had waited for but he was grateful of it. He quickly got to his feet and moved further onto the dryer land while turning around. The monster was still searching for him from the water. He thought for a moment about taking out his bow and arrows. Yet, he soon discarded the idea as was quite certain of the flying lizard warrior to notice the shot arrow.Link looked around and noticed the climbable wall not too far from him. For a moment he thought about just going for it and hope that the beast wouldn’t notice but decided against it. Instead, he came up with something much more daring. “Hey! Featherbrain! Over here!” He shouted with a small smirk on his lips. The Aeralfos growled and swiftly turned towards the one throwing insults. Its gaze narrowed in anger and it dashed forward with the sword struck straight forward. The Hero stood still and kept his equally harsh gaze in the monster. Just moments before the sword would’ve struck into him, he stepped aside. The beast screeched as the weapon struck into harsh, unforgivable wall of uneven rock. The blade ricocheted off before the monster crashed head first against the same wall. Yet, by then it had just barely heard the sound of ching that indicated for a weapon to have been taken out of its sheath. Next thing was that a sword was struck through the beast’s neck and out through the throat. The swordsman was fast with his actions as he impaled the offending enemy of his. The stab was quick and precise as he already drew it back. The creature vanished in that familiar black smoke and he sheathed the sword. After that he glanced upwards before leaning against the uneven surface of the wall and sat down. He could take a moment of a rest before starting to climb up.

The air got bit chillier but not as cold as in the snowy room. The lighting of the room got dimmer the further he moved. He held his hand to the sword’s hilt just in case something decided to jump at him.Eventually his descent led him into a new area. He frowned at the two metal lines on the uneven ground. The place was lighted by torches instead of the strange magical lights that had been in the earlier areas. On the ground to his right was something that seemed to be metallic and it had four metallic wheels with a groove in each of them. The wheels were towards him and he went to investigate bit more.He kept telling himself that it was simply to make sure there weren’t any of monsters hiding behind the metal thing instead of it being just pure curiosity of his. He pulled the sword bit outwards as he rounded the thing. As nothing jumped at him, he slightly calmed down and took a check of the oddity in front of him. It reminded him of a cart but made out of metal instead of wood. Not to mention of being much smaller. There didn’t even seem to be anything to indicate for a place to tie a horse in front of it.The Hero shrugged it off and turned his back to it. Without better ideas, he returned to the odd tracks and started to follow them further into the area. Yet, that soon ended into a sharp fall. He crouched down at the edge and tried the wall with his hands but the surface seemed too smooth to be possible of climbing down. The tracks, though, continued forward before making a slope downwards. His gaze followed the silvery lines deeper into the area.He gulped as the realization hit him. Only way forward was with that strange metal cart and the bizarre tracks that probably worked for its movement. Still, the road the thing would pick up on didn’t seem appealing at all. He fully dreaded about the ups and downs and the speed it would catch. “I’m going to hate this…” He thought grumpily while turning around and returning to the small cart.Link took a deep breath and started to pull on the thing. He had to put lot of strength to get it to crash onto the wheels. He took few deep breaths to calm his heart and breathing. After that he moved to one of the shorter sides and started to push. The ground he had thought to be solid enough ended up being oddly sandy in the cart’s area. That made the work of getting the thing close to the strange tracks very hard and strenuous. It took long while and way too many breaks until the metal cart was at the start of the two silvery lines. He slumped down to the ground while breathing heavily. He closed his eyes and just leaned against the heavy thing behind him. Sadly, he couldn’t fall asleep even though he would’ve loved to do that. It wasn’t that he didn’t try or that he wouldn’t have been tired enough for it… The place just kept him awake by whatever magic it held within.Eventually the swordsman stood up and started to work with the cart again. He pushed from the corners and slowly got the thing in line with the tracks. After that he needed to push from behind once again and move it inch by inch forward. It felt even harder like the damn metal creation was fighting against his desperate actions. For a moment he even though that the piece of shit was actually in wrong way and he would need to turn it around to get the head of it to face forward. Then, suddenly, there was a metallic clang sound which startled the golden haired Hylian nearly out of his skin. He jumped backwards in shock while his hand straight off went for his sword. Yet, as everything stayed calm and no monsters came out from anywhere, he started to relax a bit.The Hero took a moment before he inspected where the sound had come from. He stared at the two wheels that had fallen onto the tracks. It took quite a while before he chuckled and facepalmed himself while shaking his head. After that he went back into pushing. This time, luckily, the cart moved a bit better with two wheels already where they were supposed to be.Once the second metallic clang, and Link bit jumping at the sound in start, he took a moment to calm down. He wasn’t eager of going for the rollercoaster but there weren’t any of other roads forward. He’d simply need to hold on tightly and pray for the best. The fact of not being in control of the situation and not knowing where the pathway would lead to wasn’t something he was thrilled about. And with all that had been going on, he was even more dreading about the outcome of the upcoming situation. Once he felt like he had gained as much of his strength back as possible, he started to push the cart again. This time it moved smoothly and surprisingly silently. The closer he got to the edge at the end of the room, the more he feared of the inevitable. Yet, with last thoughts of prayer and begs to any of the three Goddesses who’d be listening to him, he gave last push to the cart and jumped inside it. Only seconds later it reached the slope and plummeted down. Link fought to keep his scream inside while gripping the sides with all he got.Link noticed something in the air diving right towards him. The cart, even though with the speed it had, hadn’t gone far from the start of the road. The tracks were zigzagging quite a much while going every now and then up and down. During the longer rises, he could easily hear some kind of mechanism taking over the work of moving the cart forward. Yet, he had already lost interest of the metal thing’s going as the threat made itself known to him.

Those scary beasts. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-Chapter 26: ReDeadLink screamed internally in terror, horror and rage as he couldn’t move. The living dead being was right next to him and he could feel himself trembling violently. And then the ReDead jumped and latched itself around him. Even though his upper arms were tied, it didn’t stop him from drawing out an arrow and staring to stab the beast repeatedly and very fast into its decaying body. At least it kept the creature from biting into him as it gasped at each strike. Finally the monster let go and the Hero didn’t waste a second to bring the sword out and starting to slash as harshly and fast as he could. He kept attacking until the creature had vanished into the black smoke. He was breathing fast while shaking as he stared at the spot where his enemy had been just seconds earlier. Slowly and fearfully he raised his gaze to take a look around in the dimly lit room. The swordsman gulped as he saw the ten ReDeads that were scattered around the area. Each of them were standing and staring unnervingly at him. Luckily, though, none of them were moving. That at least gave him a chance to catch his breath and prepare for the battle to come. The Hero put the sword and arrow away for a moment. After that he took once a deep breath, held it in and quickly snapped the arrow’s tail off and pulled the projectile out of his arm. He grit his teeth and held back the scream. Next he tore a piece off of his tunic to tie around the bleeding hole in his limb. Then he checked the cut on his leg done by the blade trap earlier. Luckily that had already stopped bleeding and didn’t seem like it would bother him too much.Once he had checked and fixed what he needed to handle, he returned his gaze into the monsters of the room. None of them had moved even one inch. He sighed slightly in relief for that before already drawing out his bow and arrows. “Can’t use fire but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t go down by arrows.” He thought while aiming at the closest ReDead’s head.Link let the arrow fly and quickly took a new to the string. He was bit startled when the projectile flew straight through the beast. “Of course some of these are illusions…” He thought grimly before aiming at another beast. This time the sharp weapon hit its target. He didn’t wait even a second as he swiftly took new arrows and shot them as quickly as he could. The only thing he hoped for was that he’d have enough to take down most of the enemies.Five arrows went to take down the ReDead and the swordsman already aimed at new creature before the smoke even vanished. The next being was as fake as the first he shot an arrow at. The next took five arrows into the head and two into the torso before it fell with a wail. The fifth beast was as real as the earlier and it took ten arrows to kill.Sixth creature ended up as fake with the arrow flying straight through it. Link quietly cursed as he realized to be running out of those thin sharp weapons. He sighed when the seventh took a hit and he was quick to launch the next ones to take the living dead being down.Sadly, as the eight ended up being as solid as the earlier, the Hero ran out of arrows. The being still stood with the pieces of wood with sharp metal part lodged into its body. He sighed heavily while dreading the close combat he was forced to do.As slowly as he could he started to sneak to the beasts. He thoroughly hated to walk past the eerily still creatures that weren’t real. On his way he carefully crouched down and gathered the arrows that had luckily been left onto the floor after the beast had vanished. For a while he thought about backing away and shooting the remaining creatures down. Yet, something raised its head within him and he continued to approach the wounded ReDead.Link slowly put the bow and arrows away before drawing out the Master Sword. He kept slowly moving closer until he was in the attacking range. He didn’t know how many of the remaining two were real deals or if both were just fake. That was the reason he moved so that the one he’d attack would be between him and the remaining two creatures.Once he was sure of his placement, he started to slash as hard and fast as he could. He didn’t care of destroying the arrows that were sticking from the beast’s body. All he could think was to cut those limbs off, stab the blade repeatedly into the ReDead’s chest and maim the head. Suddenly, while he was thoroughly destroying the creature of Darkness, the air was split by that freezing screech. The Hero froze to his place and stared horrified as other one of the two creatures started to move closer. He desperately tried to get free from the effect of the unholy sound. Yet, for his absolute luck and relief, the ReDead that tried to jump onto him, ended up taking its comrade into that cruel hug of its. The second it had latched into its so called enemy, he was free from the paralysis. For a split second Link thought about just enjoying the sight of one ReDead eating another but as soon as the thought was there, it was gone. And he attacked even fiercer than before while taking two beasts down simultaneously. As soon as the duo vanished into black smoke, a pathway opened up.He sighed in relief and quickly moved around the room to gather the remaining arrows. He still had a feeling of needing them later on even though he had ended up losing some during slashing the last beasts to smithereens. Once he was sure he had all the intact arrows along, he walked to the new road while desperately trying to ignore the fake ReDeads as he moved past them.
