Peter Pan by EvelMash Peter Pan by EvelMash
My Peter Pan homage.

I wanted to show Peter alone. At the end of the story, everyone is gone from Neverland and Peter is so stubborn that he won't go back to reality with Wendy, even though they both care for each other very much. He does come back for her once a year in the spring, but what does he do until then? I sort of felt sorry for Peter at the end of the novel. He's very special, he has much more than any other child; going on adventures, being able to fly. But these things come with a price, if he leaves Neverland, they will go away, Peter will have to go to school, and grow up. Even so, he is so set in his ways that he won't be with the one he cares for, and is very much alone. His "biggest pretend."

I don't think I quite explained how I felt there, I hope the painting speaks for itself.

I depicted Peter Pan as he was in the 2003 live action movie. Jeremy Sumpter looked more like the Peter I invisioned than Disney's stupid green-costumed Peter with the feather in his hat. A lot of the detail was lost in the resizing though, which I regret. I painted this on a fairly large scale/resolution, I'd like to have a print made.

Comments and crit encouraged because I'm trying some new things in Photoshop, trying to make it more like real life painting.

He spends some time alone. He spends other time visiting Wendy. I think he's content with the proportion of time spent in each place. Peter Pan would never sacrifice Neverland. Neverland needs him like the desert needs the sun. There will be other Wendy's, sorry, but it's true.

This is really beautiful. I like the idea of showing the other side of the coin for Peter Pan. Well done.

This is incredible. I love the use of the green, since it's a colour I associate with nature, darkness, sadness, evil and good. In this picture the green almost feels like the darkness, and cold of just having nature around and not the bright, warmness Pater feels around Wendy. I think this is exceptionally done, and I would love to see it in full resolution! :)

This piece is absolutely beautiful!! I'm not an artist, but I still really adore the shading in this- how all the light seems to fall on this poor, little lost boy. It illuminates how small he is in such a huge place.

I have to tell you, I absolutely love this piece. I think so many people only look at the fun, boyish side of Peter, which, of course, he has a huge amount of. But Peter in the book also has a bit of a dark, almost cynical side to him that, I think, is often overlooked. I think you've managed to capture both sides of his character quite well here! Well done, it's truly lovely!

It's  beautiful drawing; a lonely, self-absorbing but incredibly frail Peter Pan. I love it!

I think the painting does speak for itself, honestly. Although Jeremy Sumpter was a great Peter Pan, for me, I also envision him/her interchangeably. Although all literature, plays, etc have Peter with male pronouns, he is traditionally played by an androgynous female, which I love love love. The thing I also love love love about this is that you still have the androgyny here.

A wonderful homage. Of course I don't know you, but the picture looks like you poured a lot of yourself into it. I guess it's because it captures so many conflicting things: Peter's stubbornness, his fearlessness, even his solitude. Really nice.

Oh, and don't fret, you're perfectly skilled with photoshop, whether you're trying new things or not! Amazing shading and coloring.

Well there's a second book called Peter Pan in Scarlet. It's not written by the same author, but it's just as brilliant as the first!
And the second is so sweet!

I heard it was about J.M Barrie's adopted sons' mother and his brother ( J.M Barrie's ) who died young.

i must to say that i hate Wendy soooo much!!! No way does she deserve to spend time in Neverland with Peter charming. The fucking bitches, she leaves him there too!!! Who would leave him seriously? Though he taught her to fight and to fly, they have fun and a cute little tree house... HE LOVED HER! i mean, did you see the way he looked at her? Aww, and that kiss?! And she gets married to a diffirent man aswell what a slag. Ergh, fuck off Wendy!!!

I love Neverland to a scale where I even go there when I dream. This is an excellent painting and I felt the same sort of pain at the end of the book when he was left all alone out of his own stubbornness but, at the same time, If peter left never land and grew up, it would die. I relate on a very personal level to Peter and Neverland. If you ever make this a large print I'd defiantly buy it.

It really captures the Neverland I always wanted to visit as a child. As a "real life" painter, I'd say that you are well on your way to achieving your goal. Fantastic job!

I totally agree with you!! Even though Jeremy Sumpter was a bit old to be Peter he did a fantastic job! Exactly the Peter I imagined! I love Disney but they kinda destroyed Peter Pan for me /:
Your view on Peter Pan just wow that's exactly my thoughts..

I know how you feel :/ I always thought it must have been terrible, being alone all the time even if you ARE in Neverland. But I imagine more Lost Boys came eventually. After all, why else would he always be forgetting to get Wendy (or her decedents, depending on the time) in the Spring? Even with his off-sense of time, if Peter was alone I'd think he would go visit Wendy and the boys more often...
But for the first year or so, he must not have had anyone, and that'd be awfully boring for a boy like him - one who always wants an adventure.
And it must have been just as bad for Wendy, always being forgotten by Peter and growing up even though you know she didn't fully want to. And knowing Peter could come back any time and choose to stay with her, but he didn't. Oh, not to mention one day settling for another man (I think she 'settles' but truly loves Peter, maybe it's just me).
Eh, who knows. Sorry for my rambling. Beautiful painting :33
