HEART TO HEART: Part II
Hugo stirred with a groan as stiffness crept through every limb. The ground beneath him was hard and uneven, pressing against his ribs instead of the soft grass he remembered falling asleep upon.
Stranger still was that he was warm. More energy was flowing in him than ever before. His stomach, however, grumbled.
He blinked the last traces of sleep from his eyes. A broad cave stretched away before him, its ceiling disappearing into shadow. Pale daylight filtered in from somewhere behind him, glimmering faintly upon damp stone. Hugo frowned and let out a sigh.
Can’t I ever just sleep in one place and wake up there? he thought.
Nothing about last night made any sense.
