Oh, okay. As a related question, who would you have liked to make new movies (writing, producing, and directing)?

I dont know much about the producing teams of the films, but i like the ideas and scripts from the writing team Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Manny Coto. They write most of Season 4 from Enterprise and there are Trekkies too. I think this is, what a new Star Trek Movie (or TV-Series) needs to pleasure the Fans. Some writers who know the History of the Star Trek Universe.

But JJ/Orci/Kurtzman knew enough of it too, even if they did things like destroy Vulcan and made Kirk the Enterprise's captain at the end of the first movie. I really don't see the objections to them or the problems with them heading the franchise/giving it a new direction at all. Plus, it can be argued that the continuity/'History of the Star Trek Universe' was weighing the franchise down and keeping newcomers from discovering Star Trek in the first place.

Somebody said it best about Star Trek's not really being an action franchise a while ago:

(TMP) Somewhat cerebral. Mostly a 2001 knockoff. Illia in a ridiculously short skirt.
TWOK) Revenge. Explosions. Getting old. KHAAAAAAAN! A FUCK TON of Pew!Pew!
TSFS) GE-NE-SIS?! Kirk's son killed. Get out! Get out of there! Lots of Pew!Pew!
TVH) They are not the hell your whales. One damn minute, Admiral.
TFF) Three boobed cat stripper. Sha-ka-ree. Lots of Pew!Pew!
TUC) Racism. Cold War. Shakespeare. Lots of Pew!Pew!
GEN) Fantasy land. Duras Sisters. Enterprise go Boom. Lots of Pew!Pew!
FC) BOOM! Sweaty Borg. Sexual healing. Drunks. A METRIC FUCK TON of Pew!Pew!
INS) Face lift. Forced relocation. F. Murray Abraham on a couch. Lots of poorly paced Pew!Pew!
NEM) Dune buggy. Mentally deficient android. Slowly moving doom device. Lots of random Pew!Pew!

(The abbreviations are:

TMP-Star Trek: The Motion Picture

TWOK-Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

TSFS-The Search For Spock

TVH-The Voyage Home

TFF-The Final Frontier

TUC-The Undiscovered Country

GEN-Generations

FC-First Contact

INS-Insurrection

NEM-Nemesis)

Star Trek was (and is) an action-adventure franchise even since the first movie (heck, ever since the first pilot episode back in 1965.) To deny this sounds silly to me. But, to each their own.

Yes, all the Film have mistakes. But the two new Abrams Films was to me a kiddie thing like the awful Transformers or Pacific Rim Movies.
Dont get me wrong, i realy like the actors of the new movies. They do good work. But the script with transwarp beaming, building a top secret super duper dreadnought in the own solar system, invading Qu'onos the main planet of the biggest military force in the alpha quadrant, and no ship stoping the Enterprise...meh, it was too much. And the design? Why is the Enterprise or the Kelvin now a 700 m Star Destroyer. Why they have now a budweiser destille as engine room with dozens of warp cores? Not to mention the Lens Flares.
But what do you say of someone like Abrams who claims to be, he never liked the Star Trek Universe.

Oh, but I think that he does like it, in his own way; also, I don't think that a director who loves Star Trek would be willing to take risks with the material, since he'd be so awed the story would stay the same (and those risks are needed, too.) It reminds me of the way Liz Dennhey (the actress who played Lt. Shelby in the TNG episode 'Best of Both Worlds') was when she guest-starred; because she wasn't a fan, she was able to do her job without being awed by the main cast and by Star Trek itself. As well, I fail to see how a ship being big or small (or a engine room looking like a brewery) really has to do with Star Trek these days, and why it makes it impossible to enjoy a story.

Also, what does it matter the the secret Section 31 base is in our solar system? Section 31's supposed to be everywhere to begin with, so their having a base inside the Sol system's not a problem.

It seems that people forget how much the previous Star Trek was hated (and how bloated it had become), and are now looking to blast the current incarnation because a few details were changed (forgetting that this is just fiction, and that Star Trek is a fictional universe and not reality.) As I've said somewhere, people have turned Star Trek into a religion, with many people becoming Star Trek foundamentalists (people stuck at whatever moment they discovered Star Trek as a franchise.) With regards to the lens flares, many movies and TV shows have them, not just Star Trek (and why is that such a big deal anyway?) The lens flare doesn't happen that much (and it occurs in Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country when the Klingon torpedoes are fired.

I think the people (yourself included) have to step back and realize that media franchises have to grow and change (or they will stagnate and die), with Star Trek being no exception to the rule. They also have to realize that newer generations aren't going to be as enamored of the old franchises unless they are updated in some way (and again, Star Trek's not an exception.) One can watch the old episodes and movies (as well as the various fan shows) until they're blue in the face, but eventually, they have to deal with reality and accept the new paradigm, or not bother with the franchise at all. What will it be?
