Normandy Day

Remembering D-Day!
77 years ago, on the night of June 5, 1944, more than 150,000 Allied personnel, aboard more than 5,000 ships and aircraft, embarked from England upon the largest, most ambitious, and most important seaborne invasion in human history.
The D-Day invasion took place a day later than originally expected because of inclement weather. With conditions still uncertain on June 5, Allied Supreme Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower set the mission into motion with this simple order: "Let's go."
Tens of thousands of troops endured a rough night's passage of the English Channel, surging across storm-churned black water on their way to the beaches of Normandy, France.

The Invasion of Normandy was the invasion and establishment of Western Allied forces in Normandy, during Operation Overlord in 1944 in World War II, the largest amphibious invasion to ever take place.

In the Mass Effect Universe, all Frigates of the System Alliance are named after battles.
So also the SSV Normandy, the class prototype.
Commissioned in 2183, the Normandy was commanded by Captain David Anderson. Shortly thereafter, the Normandy was handed over to Commander Shepard when the Commander became the first human Spectre, and served as Shepard's main source of transportation and base of operations.
The Normandy class is a frigate co-developed by the Alliance and the Turian Hierarchy with the sponsorship of the Citadel Council as a symbol of peace. It should show everyone that despite the First Conatact war between humans and turians, there is always a way for peace and cooperation.

Best name for a ship. :la: I'm so darn emotional when ME2 intro plays. ^^;

I love the amount of detail you did in the main thruster nacels.

A fine commemoration if ever there was one my good man. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Magnificent as usual mate!

Nicely done. If I had talent, I'd draw a picture of the SR-1 flying over the USS Normandy (CG-60)

If I had the talent, I'd do this but I don't. But what if for Normandy Day, we had an image of the SSV Normandy (SR-2 version from ME3 preferably since it's my favorite) flying over the beaches of Normandy as they are today. I thought about putting it into a black and white photo of the Normandy Landing but that doesn't quite feel right to me.

Very well done, the Normandy merges nicely with the background picture. :clap:

BTW, is that a landscape image of the Normandy region? It would be pretty cool! :)
