Description

Just a quick image for a new Starship class im working on, the Polyphemus class, also known as Neo-Thunderchild class.

Almost 20 years ago, in my early days as a Starship artist, I started a kitbash of the Excelsior class. The result was a variant of the Centaur class. My Thunderchild class, a Lost Era ship, set in the 2330s. Since the class was quite well received, I decided to create a "neo" version. This would fit in with my other ships from the fleet-wide upgrade program of the 2380s.

This is the result: the USS Polyphemus. (Named after the Polyphemus-class Ironclads, to which the HMS Thunder Child belonged in H.G. Wells' novel "The War of the Worlds.")

The Polyphemus is also known as the Neo Thunderchild class.

I used the same structural layout as in my Thunderchild class, just with modern components.

At this point, it still needs some fine-tuning. A few position lights here and there, glow effects, a couple of minor texture adjustments. But the majority is complete.

I like this one much better than your original thunder child as much as I enjoyed that one. as much as I enjoyed the excelsior class and what it represented,... I never was a big fan of the overall design itself just because of how bulky it looked compared to all the other ships, saucer not included in that assessment. This Neo Thunderchild looks a lot better, very much more streamlined. Nice work.
