History Panel Constellation class Euderion

History file for the second ship with the name USS Euderion, a Constellation class Cruiser.

The second Starfleet ship with the name "Euderion", operated from 2259-2272.

The USS Euderion NCC-1951 was a testbed ship for the later Cheetah and Constellation classes.

In 2256 the starting shot was given for the construction of the Constellation class, or at least what would later become the Constellation class. In the Proxima shipyards, the prototype was to be built, which was to be designed for balanced systems, a "Jack of all Trades". The Proxima shipyard had a relatively free choice of names for "their" ship and  Gihlan't'aehn, a great advocate of colonial policy, who overseer the construction, named the ship 'Euderion' after the founders of the first Federation colonies in Alpha Centauri. The shipyard began construction work in the middle of 2256.

In 2259, the USS Euderion was launched under the command of Captain Gihlan't'aehn.

In its 14 years of service, the Euderion completed several missions with far-reaching consequences. The first contact with the Pellians took place on its first survey mission near Talarian and Tholian space. The Pellians demanded that Starfleet ships only fly into their space with permission, but there was also an exchange of information about the Tholian borders, which were of paramount strategic importance at the time.

One of the most impressive missions was to take place in the Typhon system. In 2267, both Starfleet and the Romulans accused each other of influencing the Typhon sun in order to damage the enemy border colonies. After a game of cat and mouse, it was finally discovered that a Great Bird of the Galaxy had settled in the Typhon star and was now hatching. The Euderion was able to warn its colonies and observe the hatching resulting in the Typhon Expanse.

In 2268, the Euderion was the ship that guided the Kelvan ambassadors to Earth. There, the official peace treaty between the Federation and the new Kelvan Empire was signed.

At the end of her service, the ship was used as a learning object. Her missions and performance were evaluated and the results were implemented into the official Constellation class.
