First Contact Day 2018 by Euderion First Contact Day 2018 by Euderion
"Imagine it... thousands of inhabited planets at our fingertips. And we'll be able to explore those strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilisations. This engine will let us go boldly where no man has gone before."
Zefram Cochrane

Happy First Contact Day folks!

First Contact Day is a holiday celebrated to honor both the warp 1 flight of the Phoenix and first open contact between Humans and Vulcans on April 5, 2063 in Bozeman, Montana.

Dr. Zefram Cochrane, the inventor of warp drive, built this warp ship inside a missile complex in Bozeman, Montana. The ship was initially a United States Air Force Titan V nuclear missile with a titanium casing. It took six months for Lily Sloane to scrounge enough titanium to build the four-meter cockpit of the Phoenix. Dr. Cochrane was the pilot, and Lily Sloane was initially intended to be one of the co-pilots. However, William Riker and Geordi La Forge (both of the USS Enterprise-E, from 2373) served as the crew.
The first flight of the Phoenix attracted the attention of a passing Vulcan ship, the T'Plana-Hath, causing the Vulcans to decide to make First Contact.

Great job.  Love the use of shadow to add realism and mystery.  And the sun is painfully bright, as it should be.

I always though the structure at the back of the Pheonix was just a mounting not an engine. I mean IT never made a Gravity turn it was a ballistic trajectory then using the warp drive to accelerate out of orbit.

What was an instrument of war became a symbol of what was to become a brighter better future, the pheonix, a nuclear ballistic missile turned into humanitys first ever warp capable ship which on her maiden voyage caught the attention of a passing vulcan survey ship

I was going to watch 'First Contact' on DVD yesterday, largely because the 4th April was the day the film I think was largely set in, but instead I never did because I later got rather depressed and to cheer myself up I ended up watching this on DVD instead -
