Now, that the Eaglemoss starship collection had done a reallife Curry class model, this weird ship moves a little more into the public view.
I've done a Curry kitbash years before but
now i wanted to do another version with corrected warp engines, because i never liked the fact, that they use oversized Miranda class (or Constitution refit) engines. So i gave her back the Excelsior family engines which are in the correct scale to the rest of the ship. As a carrier ship, i also gave her a second hangar deck at the bottom.

For the in-universe explanation how these ships
were developed it was often stated, that these ships were constructed from damaged ones during the War with the Dominion. Every ship was needed, and when you are desperate, you merge two half ships to one complete ships no matter how it looks.
The Curry class is a carrier type starship which carries dozens of Peregrine fighters.

The Curry class appears in some of the later DS9 Episodes and was one ship of the Frankenstein Fleet like the Yeager, Centaur or Medusa classes.

The original Deep Space Nine studio model USS Curry (NCC-42254) was built by, and named after Visual Effects Supervisor Dan Curry. The kitbash model was constructed from the saucer section and engineering hull from the AMT/Ertl USS Excelsior model kit, and the warp nacelles and pylons from the USS Reliant model kit.
Dan Curry noted on his build, "We had to do a fleet of damaged ships. We got together (Gary Hutzel, and other people from Image G) and we kitbashed Star Trek models in ways that they were never meant to be put together. Just for fun each person who built a ship named it after him or her self."

Nearly forgot about this piece of my childhood. Unlike many who watched DS9 I actually remember seeing this for the first time, however briefly. Nice to finally find a decent picture of it for my favs.

The version here is a bit altered by me. The original Curry class in DS9 had Miranda class engines. I just wanted to see how it looks like with original Excelsior class engines.
This ship was for me the first time as was aware of the Frankenstein fleet. Most of them are just Background ships, but the Curry had one very focus appearance in one of the fleet scenes. To that time i always wondered what this was til the DS9 Technical Manual gave me the first image.

Oh I am aware of the refit you did. Looks better then the Constitution/Miranda nacelles.

It's a shame that aside from the Akira, we never really got a proper Carrier, like a TNG version of the Coronado. But I guess that's what you get when you don't have the budget to put any concepts that Sternbach or Probert might put to paper on the small screen.

I think that the lower registry means that they are pre-Dominion War, and from the Cardassian Border Wars. For some reason, they were designed to be quick to produce, and might have been originally concepts for putting designs together quickly in case of a long war with a power such as the Romulan Star Empire.

And while the size of the image allows for the viewing of the work you put into the Curry, it also allows me to see that you used the straight up Reliant model!

Even so, I have lost no respect for you or your work. But I do see some people who manage to come up with new names and registries for fleet formations. If it is within your skill and you have the time to do so, I would suggest adding just that extra layer of detail.

Oh, had forgotten to delete the registry of the Reliant. I was focused on the Curry that i dont pay attention to the other ships much.

Kitbashing was always a thing in all Star Trek productions, but the DS9 ones were the worst of them.

nice, but isn't it the Curie class, named for Madam Marie Curie? not chicken sauce? :P

No, the Curie class is a smaller ship, the sucessor of the Oberth class. I have a pic here:

As i stated in the description, the Curry class is built and named after Dan Curry, a visual Effects Supervisor in Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
At some point where it comes to these giant fleet scenes in the later DS9 Episodes, the Effects teams made many different kitbash models from pre existing AMT Model kits. Each of the members from "Image G" (the CGI Team for the starship visuals) made one ship, and named it after him/herself.

Oy, that ugly ol' thing? (Just jokin' around.) The Curry-class is one of several ships called the "Frankenstein Fleet".

She's not a beauty, thats for sure. But a starship doesnt have to be a beauty to work. Form follows function.
