So, Caidy's wig had managed to get itself all straightened out and we couldn't have that, so I did my research and watched some videos on how to recurl synthetic hair, specifically monique wigs, and everyone recommended the boiled water thing, which made me way nervous, but I thought, oh well, I'll try it, and was shopping for a replacement wig just in case I ruined it.
So yesterday was spa day, and she got sat on the desk and her wig wet down and curled on over cut up straws with bobby pins to hold them in place, and then I heated up some water in the microwave until it boiled, dumped it in for about 10 secs and then fished it out, burned my fingers and did the hopping hot potatoe dance with a hot ass wig in my hands. Fun times. While it dried, she got her eyelashes fixed (one had come unglued), and some 'earrings' put on, which are just nail gems white glued on.
Once the wig dried, out came the curls and oh. my. god. Wow. Hermione hair.
So, things learned:
1. Have tongs to dip and pull out wig with. Have towel ready to pat off excess water after. Have someplace to SIT wig to dry, rather then one handedly trying to strip off the empty paper towel holder to rig a wig stand.
2. Straws make really nice TINY curlers. Get foam ones next time for BIG curls.
3. Bobby pins crimp hair like mad. See foam curler note.
4. She actually is rocking the look, and the hair is relaxing the more its down, and I imagine a brushing or two will help.
So, there we go. Adventures in Wig Curling 101.
Also, omg I took photos! After I had to find my camera.
I even set up the chest of drawers I'd painted up as a prop full off all her clothes... and none of the pics with the chest of drawers came out. Boo. You can see a pic of just the props set up here, if you're curious: [link]
