In an Instant - Chapter 3

“Just be good, Vincent.” I said. Victor, Vincent and I were all standing at Sydney and Ray’s front door. Sydney would watch over the kids today. Every Saturday, one of us took turns who would watch over the kids. From Monday until Friday, the kids – well, Vincent, Molly and Canna – went to school, but they were free every Saturday and Sunday and since we were only free on Saturday, someone needed to watch over the kids every Saturday. It wasn’t a hard job, but it needed to be done.

“Yes, mom.” Vincent sighed and he looked to me. Sometimes I just wished he looked a little bit less like his father and more like me. But, it’s nature and you can’t do a thing about that.

"Thank God, my blinds have a savoir." Sydney said when she opened the door. I looked to her window and I smiled a little bit. It looked like Molly was playing with her blinds again. Vincent went to the couch and Molly sat down next to him to watch him play his handheld. I saw Sydney rolling with her eyes. “Seriously, why do you buy him these things?” she asked us and we just shrugged. Vincent shared his father’s passion for games and he is our son. We heard a thump from upstairs and Sydney asked Ray to check Collin. Since that little boy could even move on his own, he was escaping from his cradle, playpen… almost everything. You had to strap him to something heavy before you could leave him alone.

Victor and I looked to each other. “I’m so happy that Vincent wasn’t like that.” Victor sighed. “He was enough trouble back then.”

I smiled a little bit. “Can you imagine what kind of trouble he would be when he’ll be a teenager?”

Victor groaned. “Please, don’t talk about that.” he said and we looked to Collin, who managed to escape from his playpen. We started to snicker and Sydney turned around.  

“What?” she asked and she saw Collin sitting on the floor. She picked him up and it seemed that she was looking for some way to keep him in the playpen. She saw the barbell and she strapped him to that.

Just when she placed Collin (with the barbell) into the playpen, Jen, Kent and Canna walked into the room. Jen told Sydney that they left the twins at their granny and she saw Collin strapped to the barbell. “Um, why is Collin strapped to the…barbell?” she asked and she looked to Sydney.

“That’s a looooong story.” Sydney sighed. “Collin just loves to escape, what ever we try to do. He always manages to escape from everything.”

Ray stood next to Sydney. “If he goes on like this, he’ll be a good agent in the future.” he said.

“Yes, but until then we have to keep him into the places we want him to be.”

I looked to the clock. “Guys, it’s really time to go to work now.” I said. I walked to Vincent and I gave him a kiss on his forehead. “Don’t play videogames too long  and listen to Auntie Sydney.”

“Yes, mom.” Vincent said, without looking up from his handheld.

I sighed a little bit and Victor walked up to us. “You heard your mother, sport. Play some with your friends too.”

“Yes dad.” Vincent said and Victor ruffled through Vincent’s hair.

“Goodbye.” he said and Sydney looked to us.

“You guys spoil him too much.” she sighed. “Don’t stay away for too long after work.”

“No, mommy.” Victor said with a smile and I chuckled. “We’ll be here at half past five.”

“Let’s go.” Ray said and the Jen and Kent walked up to us. It’s was time for us to go to work. And in the afternoon, we would have the rest of the weekend to spend our time together with the kids. I couldn’t wait for it.
