Photography vs. biography

Photography vs. biography

Notion of evaluating, reacting to a photo seems not unlike rating a biography. Is one responding to the source material, or to the treatment of it ? If I rate a biographical book poorly, how much of that is based on "that person's life bored me" vs. "the way that person's life was portrayed bored me" ? Same with photos-how much of my response is due to "that (visual) subject really interests me" vs. "the way that photo was taken makes this (otherwise dull) subject appear quite interesting" ? I wonder about this with regard to my opinions/impressions of other people's work (be it books or artwork), as well as other people's reactions in rela
