Description
As long as I can't take good pictures from my spear (I don't have it at home right now) I used some photos from the convention I wore it for the first time. I hope you could see quite well the details, I will answer any questions if I can help future Fangs cosplayers ^^
Now I'll explain a bit how I made it:
*All is made with wood. I didn't have a better idea, but after doing this weapon I highly recommend not working with wood unless you have properly and special tools for do it. Search for softer materials like craft foam.
*The blades (although there are too big, I realized that when I had it all finished -___-) are two pieces of wood sheets each one, so although the original sheets were quite thin, both of them created a solid blade. I painted them with black and red paint, and I decorated it with silver rings and the golden letters.
*For those interested on make this Fang’s weapon, you need to know that the letters mean “Oerba Yun Fang” in Gran Pulse’s alphabet. I found a table with the letters by Inet, so I created a template on a card paper in order to fill it with a golden pencil over the wood.
*The center of the staff is decorated with different materials. I used a thin rope and craft foam for the golden and silver decorations. I covered the craft foam parts with spray (golden and silver) to get a better color. The center of the staff is recovered with a paper that simulates a wicker surface. This point is not really appreciable unless you get so close, because I used a heavy paint over the paper and the wicker effect is not so clear. Anyway, is clearer on the blue parts, where I used the same paper but a different kind of paint (the red one is the same I used for the blades).
*The last point to talk about is how I fixed the blades to the staff. As you can see, under the blades there are some little modeled pieces of wood that I bought on a home tools shop. There is the kind of pieces that you can use to make, for example, a base for a lamp or a food of a bed. I painted them with red paint for the outside and silver by the inside.
That’s a really hard work, and the first time I made a weapon like this. I know there’s so much to improve here, but I’m quite proud of the result. I hope this information could help you if you are planning to cosplay as Fang.
See ya and good luck~!
