The Company's Favorite Face

Belated realization that it's Kevin Appreciation Week! I'm taking that as an excuse to post this.

Kevin in the HDM AU is the prophesied wielder of Strexcorp's most powerful and dangerous invention. Trouble is, all Strex knows to look for is someone with his face, so they end up hunting down his lookalikes in every universe they can....

(Drew this way back in July 2014, so it reflects some early designs and story plans.)

Cecil Palmer: from a world with corporeal daemons (Lyra's World), accompanied by his Khoshekh. Wielding an alethiometer.

Kevin Serling: from a world with corporeal deaths. Imported to Desert Bluffs in Lyra's World, where it's easier for him not to notice the fate of his hometown. Wielding an unnecessarily fancy knife.

Felix Dunham: from a world with corporeal ba (part of the ancient Egyptian concept of the soul). He was originally slated to be one of the lookalikes Dana met on her travels, but the arc never came together. Cecil and Tamika (and Kevin) have seen random extras from worlds with ba, though.

Lewis Mulder: from a world without corporeal versions of any metaphysical concepts. On the other hand, they do have interplanetary travel, so that's cool.

Right to left is the order in which Strex got to their worlds. (They took over Felix's hometown before Kevin's, but Felix's resistance held out longer.)

wAIT, CORPOREAL REPRESENTATIONS OF "BA"? DO YOU MEAN "KA"?!?!?! :D :iconyugiohplz: :iconatemplz:

(In yugioh, Ba is the wellspring of a person's soul, and the Ka is the physical representation that can manifest from that. So YAY! :3)

I'm not sure how accurate Yu-Gi-Oh is on the Egyptian soul-concept, but I did mean the ba! It's usually represented as a human-headed bird:…

Ah, Ok sweet! :) I hadn't really read the article you posted before I mentioned that, and it turns out that "Ka" actually meant something else in real life. ^^0 So I guess Yugioh had a misnomer? But that's how they explain what basically created Duel Monsters in the show lol. Funny that they used one term to mean something completely different! XD

[btw as far as Yugioh and Ancient Egypt was never accurate on anything in the first place. TT-TT But at least it sparks interest! lol]
