The Gifted

So a week or so ago, I happened to hear a song that's associated with The Gifted (lol, there are many), and as what usually happens, I got my muse on the story and coming up with random little things. But then it was suggested that, since it's been a few months since we worked on it, that maybe we should start over?

My muse kinda liked that idea, since the ideas I had would involve me rewriting some bits. But then we further went and changed some aspects of the story, so that it's very different than it was before. But still, even before that, my muse had wanted to redesign Jacey (because it likes attempting that) and I had done up a design sheet for her and her family where only she turned out.

But I couldn't leave her stranded like that. so...I came up with the idea of this, where the four mains are standing in their own separate boxes and whatnot, and, well, it ended up looking great!

(Did I change Jacey? Yes, kinda...I gave her bangs and a green spot within them rather than a black streak in her hair, as well as made her glasses bigger.)

So we have Jin Lee (fire), Jacey Morgenstern (Earth with a specialty of metal), Eve Thibodeaux (water), and Dean Cassidy (wind).

In any case, the ideas that we had are that Gifts have always existed, although in subtle ways. Like, a geologist being about to just know a vein of a certain rock type is hidden within a mountain, a swimmer excelling before she unconsciously moves the water around her, a meteorologist knowing the changes in the weather without looking at his equipment, a cook being able to make his dishes perfectly because he's able to control the temperature of the flame on the stove. Small things that most people can't perceive themselves.

However, several years before the story starts, people started manifesting their Gifts physically. It's only a handful of people in the world that has at this point, manifesting when people are in their early teens typically. This group is actually in the second generation of people who developed physical Gifts, with the exception of Jacey, whose manifested at the tail end of the first generation when she was only seven (making her the youngest to manifest physical powers as of right now).

Of course, none of their families really know what to make of this power, so they more or less hide them. Jacey is a little more open than the others, since her father, who had realized he had a Gift since he can communicate somewhat with sea creatures (it's still a subtle Gift). Jin, however, wasn't born with his Gift, given one artificially by the even Institute whose been experimenting on Gifted people for decades.

Every one turned out so great! I had a little trouble with Eve because she didn't turn out as awesome as the others and that really bothered me, but I managed to make something that really works with her. I'm also stupidly pleased with Dean over there. He looks geeky somehow, and just the style suits him.

As usual, really pleased with how this turned out!
