Ryan Comparison

Description

Well, I typically do these before I start a story, so long as the story has art and designs old enough to compare.  This time it's sort of weird, because Purebred was my first NaNo project.  It's so weird to think that I've been doing NaNo long enough that I could do one of these on a former story!

...

Except this isn't comparing Purebred Ryans.  Ryan predates that story.  This is comparing current Ryan with Hart, Inc. Ryan.

The very first Ryan, the one with blond hair, was a nineteen year old college student was was in love with a vampire she had been harboring for the past ten years or so.  She befriended him when she was about four or five, and he attached himself to her for unknown reasons.  So she grew up hiding him after she actually brought him in her home (in the form of a house cat that she apparently named 'Kittybutt').  She's in love with him, but doesn't know how to deal with it, because she doesn't know if he feels the same about her.

Current Ryan is a sixteen year old girl in somewhat of a similar situation, except she's unaware that her vampire is, in fact, a vampire.  She's a sheltered girl from a town that's sole purpose is to keep vampires away from the humans living there, and while the people there do put the idea of fearing vampires and the dark in others' heads, she;'s never actually seen a true vampire.  As such, she's a bit reckless and rebellious,  testing the limits of being 'safe'.  Her best friend is Benjamin Cartwright, a purebred vampire she's literally grown up with.  She's also in love with him, but since they're both sixteen this time, they deal with it like any other awkward sixteen year old would - they ignore their feelings for each other.  ;P

It's not really that weird to see a blond Ryan, mostly because I don't consider them to be the same character.  When she's blond in the pictures after HI, it's weird, but HI Ryan doesn't look weird as a blond.  It's weird.  But I really like how she turned out!  As always, she looks amazing in my current style.  :D  I actually rather like the design I came up for her.

And then current Ryan is still current Ryan, and I realize I need to change her up a little, except she wear the same thing all the time.  She might wear a different shirt, but it's under the hoodie, so no one would know.  >.<  But I like it; it works very well for her.

I think it's funny that she's always had that necklace, just in a different color.  I based it off this old cheap coral necklace I had gotten at Walmart around that time, and I wore, like, all the time to work.  I liked it, but I like the idea of the pearl necklace she wears now better.  >.<  That thing is actually not very pretty.

Two very badass women, if I do say so myself.  :D

Ahh, here we go; I was wondering when I’d get to see this for myself rather than on a little screen. >.> It’s so weird to see you revisiting Purebred, not just because it’s your first NaNo story (which is…what, going on seven years now? >.O), and not just because it does have that history of being connected to Hart, Inc., but because you’ve had enough time to rewrite the story…what, twice? it just feels like you’ve taken the character so far from her origins, and had the time to rewrite her story twice. Every time she’s changed a little bit more. So just to have a character with that kind of history behind it, and then pair her with her very first form, and it’s just kinda amazing to think about. She’s come a long way since then.

Well, in terms of personality and such. Outfit-wise she looks a bit like she’s going back to her roots. Maybe you should’ve given her a studded belt. >.> Out of all of this though, the one thing I’d honestly forgotten was that her necklace…used to be red? I only remember it as the white/teal colour, not the white/red. That’s interesting to hear how you came up with it; I can totally understand being inspired by stuff you own. I’ve drawn characters wearing clothes I have/had, so it’s neat to see that that iconic necklace was one of those things. The original doesn’t sound like it’d be as fine/delicate as the necklace is now though.

It’s funny, since you totally have a point there: original Ryan as a blonde is fine; Purebred Ryan as a blonde…isn’t. Even though I know she briefly was blonde, and Charlie dyes her hair blonde, somehow seeing Ryan that way just feels wrong. Still, seeing old Ryan in your new style is kinda neat! It also shows that old Ryan’s design was fine too, just…not for Purebred. >.> (I think you changed her hair a bit? Looking at their original designs, it looks like her hair has a ton of layers or something.)

I like seeing the two of them together, if only because it reminds me of how different they look. Old Ryan is kinda tan and blonde, while current Ryan is paler and a brunette. I want to say Old Ryan is a bit less freckly, but I can’t tell if she just looks that way thanks to the different skin tone, or if she actually is. either way, it’s a really interesting comparison.

I love how the shoes are the only other thing, aside from the necklace, that hasn’t ever changed. :XD:

All in all, it’s great to see comparison pictures! I think they’re great. :D And you have a lot of other characters you could use as well (Thomas, Caroline, and Robert, mostly — though I’d also suggest the original Grigoriy, because come on, look at that! Sometimes I actually forget about that version of him, to be honest, but then I see that picture and go ‘oh yeah!’) But it’s great to see where Ryan came from, and how far she’s come since then. :D Love the picture; can’t wait to see more! :D
