Next up in this little series I'm doing to add to the individual galleries is the Queen of the Underworld and the goddess of spring, Persephone. She, like Zephyrus, is a minor figure in the myth that I decided to feature predominately in my story, becoming the best friend of the original Psyche, as well as the protector of the current Psyche.
Unlike the other gods, I already had this outfit planned out, but it was nice to be able to draw it properly. I still like it; it looks so Greekish.
I'm still not sure why I chose purple for her, but there you go. At least it looks good on her and isn't red like my other Persephone's color.
I gave her the scythe to represent her husband, Hades, who's the the Ruler of the Underworld. I don't think that's actually his symbol, but like most gods, he's adapted it as people started associating it with death. But it also has a dual purple, since the scythe is actually a farming tool, like a large sickle, I believe. Persephone's mother, Demeter, is the goddess of the harvest, so Persephone has an association with farming as well. She mostly looks badass holding it, but I thought the dual meaning was sort of neat.
And, of course, she's holding a generic white flower to represent her dominion over spring, although I don't think she's held that title for a while. She's spent the time after the gods fell in the Underworld, giving up her claim over bringing the spring, but whatever. She still has that aspect of her personality.
Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out, because this is exactly how I saw her pose working.
Rightfully badass indeed.

Haha, I know I was the one commenting on how badass this looked when you were streaming it, but it's also funny, because while Persephone can be fierce and protective of those she loves, at no point did I ever see her as badass -- just kind of quirky and brave, like Lia. But not badass, which is totally what she looks like here. It's a nice surprise. >.>
Sure, maybe she's just borrowing her husband's, or even her mother's, scythe. But she's still rocking it like whoa. >.> I think the fact that she's surrounded by purple - both with the background and her clothes - really give a gloomier atmosphere to the picture, in a way that really suits her function as Queen of the Underworld (I've also heard references to her as "The Hera of the Underworld," which…yeah, no. Persephone's a bit calmer than Hera, though maybe that's because her husband isn't having affairs left, right, and centre (and probably many other directions besides that).
I also like the white flower, since it ties it nicely with her white sash (which stands out against all the purple), and it's a good callback to her role as bringer of spring. Sure, maybe that's not literally true any more, especially since humanity's learned about what really causes spring nowadays, and she's stayed firmly in the Underworld since Rome fell/since Rome was Christianized, but it's still an attribute of her, and it's nice that that's represented as well. It's a good way to show both of her influences.
This is awesome to see. If Psyche saw this, she might feel a bit better about having her as protector. Watch out, Aphrodite! >.>
