EDIT: YES!! Of course the pole is transparent on purpose. Why would I not notice something like that? 
It's supposed to be a magical effect, which I actually used to improve the composition since the dark values near the center were way too distracting.
Pro-tip: I added inner and outer glow layers to the transparency. And if you look closely you'll notice that the landscape behind the pole is slightly distorted through the see-through material. So there's no way this could have been an accident which I didn't notice.
On another note: thanks a lot for all the comments and favs, you rock! Please just don't make comments about the pole anymore lol.
