EDIT: YES!! Of course the pole is transparent on purpose. Why would I not notice something like that? ;P It's supposed to be a magical effect, which I actually used to improve the composition since the dark values near the center were way too distracting.
Pro-tip: I added inner and outer glow layers to the transparency. And if you look closely you'll notice that the landscape behind the pole is slightly distorted through the see-through material. So there's no way this could have been an accident which I didn't notice. ;)

On another note: thanks a lot for all the comments and favs, you rock! Please just don't make comments about the pole anymore lol.

The smoke is a combination of textures and painting

Interesting scene, don't know exactly what's going on but it looks like a cutscene out of a game or something Maybe it's an explosion, or a super-powerful magic cast from a character

Only thing that confuses me is that even though the poles at the front are clear like glass, they still look "wooden", especially near the top and bottom. Once again it could be some surreal magic element, but if not I feel like I'm looking at clear wood (but it looks pretty cool though how the background distorts behind it ) Reflections in water are generally darker than the real thing in spite of the common belief reflections are lighter. The mountains do seem darker, but the explosion/magic seems lighter

Anyway that's my minor nitpicking for now. It's an eye-catching picture
