Revelation: A LoK fanfic

Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime? Toph's voice echoed in Katara's ears.

"I don't see why not," she whispered Aang's response as she watched her pupil train. Korra was a naturally gifted waterbender, just like him.

"Did you say something, Sifu?" Korra asked, looking up from her forms.

"Just noticing how well you've been doing," she responded. "Korra, can you sit for a while, there is something I want to talk about."

"What is it, Sifu?" She asked, quickly bending up a pillar of ice to sit on.

"Several things," Katara answered. "First, Happy 16th Birthday, Korra."

"Thanks, Sifu. It means a lot that you remembered."

Katara nodded and smiled at her young pupil, swallowing the knot in her throat. "The other thing I wanted to tell you is something the Water Sages and I have kept from you your whole life. Normally they would be the ones to tell you this, but I convinced them to let me do it."

Korra just stared at her, she wasn't sure where her Sifu was going with this.

"It has been an honor to teach you Waterbending, Avatar Korra." Her Sifu stood and bowed before her. Korra was speechless, this was her Sifu, the greatest Waterbender alive, bowing before her, a 16 year old girl.

"How can you be sure?" She asked.

"Do you recognize these?" Katara pulled the four artifacts from her bag.

"These were my favorite toys growing up," Korra responded, picking up a stuffed turtle.

"They are also the Avatar Relics," Katara informed her. "Possessions of every one of your past lives. That is why you picked them."

"It's weird, I feel like I should say that you must have made a mistake, that there is no way I could be the Avatar. But it's almost if, deep inside, I have always known."

"The Sages from the Northern Tribe will arrive this afternoon. They will prepare you for going out into the world and mastering the other Elements." Katara struggled to keep back her tears. "I want you to have this," she removed her necklace and tied it around her pupil's neck. "I have a feeling it will help you in your quest to become the Avatar."

"Thank you, Sifu Katara," the young Avatar hugged her teacher tight. "I'm going to miss you so much."

"I miss you too," Katara said, a single tear rolling down her check and onto her husband's glowing form.
I'm taking a quick break from Zutara Week 2010 to post an idea I had.

With the announcement of the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel, titled Avatar: The Legend of Korra, I decided to write a short prequel fic for the series. If you haven’t heard, here’s the cliff notes version:

70 years after Ozai’s defeat, the new Avatar, a Southern Water Tribe girl named Korra, who has already mastered Water, Earth, and Firebending, travels to the crime-ridden Republic City. There she faces a growing anti-bending revolt and learns Airbending from Avatar Aang’s son, Tenzin.

So, since Korra grew up in the Southern Tribe, I figured she would have been trained by Katara. Katara would have known that Korra was Aang’s successor, so this would be very emotional for her.

I merged aspects of how Roku and Aang found out they were the Avatar for this piece, and was partially inspired by this picture. I also threw in Toph’s quote from “The Avatar and the Fire Lord” because I thought it fit.

Not terribly original, I’ll admit, but it was something I had to write. All aboard the bandwagon.

I'm also assuming that Tenzin is an only child and has yet to marry, which explains why Katara still has her old necklace. Also, Katara may have kinda adopted Korra if I decide that her parents died when she was much younger, I haven't decided.

Both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra and all characters are (C) Viacom
Cause if I owned them, Tenzin's mom would have been Toph, I'm just using them for speculation.

Even if people still support different ships after the series is over, with me still having a soft spot for Kataang, I think that everyone can agree that if Katara is still alive (keeping The Fortuneteller in mind), LoK will be very sad and bittersweet.

Keeping 'The Fortuneteller' in mind, Katara's going to live forever. Tenzin is her only child, is 40 something and still single. Or at least that's the impression I'm getting.
