No.7 - 108 tooth wheel by ericfreitas No.7 - 108 tooth wheel by ericfreitas
It's been awhile since I've posted any progress on No.7; I've been a garage hermit lately. Slowly, carefully, and affectionately I'm machining and carving my way toward an eventual finish. I'm not going to project when that will be; I'm making it a point not to think about deadlines anymore, only to keep going.

This is one of the five wheels that make up the going and weight train. All of these gears are cut, and all but one is carved to completion. This particular 108 tooth gear will be second in the train, just behind the six legged escape wheel, and thus will move very noticeably.

Man alive that is intricate! Gorgeous to boot.

If you don't mind revealing, what do you use to carve these? I would love to know

Thank you! I use a Foredom flex shaft tool with different burs.

Very impressive, Eric! I am always in awe of your patient alchemy; turning raw brass into such an amazing piece of functional art.

The metalwork is just, beautifully done. As usual you can tell you've spent an awful lot of time working on this! Can't wait to see the finished piece, whenever it comes :D Good luck doing the other wheels!

When this one's finished I'm going to put a nice sequence of shots together. There's going to be a lot for a camera to explore, so invariably there will be lots of close up footage.
