My Bio

Hey guys!
I was born in 1980 and I live in central Israel. A musician since age 9, I started my way in the DSLR world in March 2008, and have since become a hopeless addict.
I concentrate on macro and landscape. To me, both these fields are all about the intricacy and beauty of our incredible natural world. My macro images are shot in the wild, exhibiting the creatures' natural environments and surroundings. I am what you'd call a "macro purist", meaning I shoot with natural light and a tripod almost exclusively, and try to make my images look as natural as possible. From time to time I take a few studio macro shots. Needless to say, all subjects are absolutely free and alive (unless being eaten by another creature...). I do *NOT* hurt, kill, maim, freeze, squash, glue, heat, refrigerate, skewer, disembowel or perform any other abuse on my subjects.
As for landscape, I do my best to travel as much as possible and shoot the most fascinating landscapes of Israel, from the incredible dead sea to the shores of the Mediterranean, and in addition, every year I travel to my favorite overseas locations to shoot.

I hope you enjoy my work. If you're interested in more info, please visit me at ErezMarom.com, where you can inquire about purchasing prints, attending my local and international workshops and more.

All the best,
Erez

Photographing jumpers is never easy. Those tiny bastards always... well, jump, making it hard to track them, especially with a lens like the MP-E, which is hard to use in the first place.
This image is special in the sense that the spider is spreading its fangs, a sight rarely seen in such clarity and detail. Its stance with the front legs in the air is also a pleasure. Focus is perfect, the eyes are in focus but also the fangs- which is very important here. The lighting is very good and well-balanced, though it could be a bit darker on the background to my taste. Background color is a bit pale, but color is generally very good, especially where it's important, like on the fangs and the stamens that have clung to the spider's body.
The main disadvantage of this image is the composition, namely the cutting of the spider's leg on the right side, hence the 4 technique stars. This really draws the eye and makes it not as good as it should've been. An image like this should be perfect in every aspect, and it almost is, except in this aspect. I know very well how hard it is to get them exactly where you want them in the frame, but the entire body must have been included to make this a perfect shot.
All in all, a very good shot, great focus and light, and fun to look at!

Thank you very much - I've really enjoyed reading your critique!
Evolution in Reverse
Hey,
Thank you so much for the critique!
I understand your comments about the composition. However, as you've mentioned, there was a very short time window to get the shot, not to mention very hard light conditions (forcing me to use a low shutter speed - therefore the blurred hand on the right). I feel lucky just to have gotten this shot as it is :D
Best regards,
Erez
