Arrest gays, Kenyan PM orders

At a public rally on Sunday, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga ordered police to arrest anyone engaging in homosexual activities and to take appropriate legal action upon them.

According to the report by Capital News, the rally was held at Kamukunji grounds in his Langata Constituency. Raila Odinga expressed that "such behaviors" will not be tolerated:

"The constitution is very clear on this issue and men or women found engaging in homosexuality will not be spared. Any man found engaging in sexual activities with another man should be arrested. Even women found engaging in sexual activities will be arrested"

He questioned why people should engage in homosexual activity, citing the equal ration of men and women, according to the most recent census results.

According to a 2007 Pew Research study, 96% of Kenyans said that homosexuality "should be rejected by society," making it one of the highest rejection of homosexuality in the 44 countries surveyed.

This sort of thing makes me sad. :/ No one should wish harm on anyone else and that's pretty much what he's doing. How would he feel if he were being conspired against? I think he needs to be put in a position where he is discriminated against just because he's a Kenyan. What would he say then? I'm sure he would be angry, too.

Taking a wild guess...
I'm assuming that the reason they see homosexuality as such a terrible thing is because it has been linked with HIV/AIDS. Since there is such a problem with that kind of thing in that continent they probably believe they (the homosexuals) caused the problem. Some one had mentioned that they (the population) were catholic, and if they are truly catholic and follow the pope they would shun condoms, which would solve the help stop the spread of the disease.
Just saying.

You think that a place like that would have other shit to deal with.
It just goes to show how stupid the African officials really are.
Give them money, they spend it on guns. Give them a policeforce, they arrest gays.

Has no one ever taught them about priorities?

What suprises me is that Kenya is predominantly Christian. I thought the whole idea of Christianity was preaching love and tolerance? I would expect this more from an Islamic country.

It surprises you? To me, that's the explination as to why they're like that.

Well, the US and much of Europe is predominantly Christian as well, where there is not as much intolerance as countries like Iran, which are mostly Islamic. I always thought that Christians, while they wanted to change gay people to straight people, didn't normally want to kill them.

Eh I wouldn't put it beneath Christians to make homosexuality illegal. Some Christians don't practice what they preach. So yeahhh. :/

Yeah true. Makes me sad though, to think that some of my freinds follow a religon that is used to justify this kind of hate.

Ignorance is bliss to them though. To me everyone I know calls themselves a Christian to belong and then don't follow the rules of their religion. So I don't believe every Christian is bad. I hate the Bible for man created that. God just "inspired" it. To me it's all bullshit either way. lol.

I know some people that are Christian and are pretty religious, but still support gay rights. It kind of confuses me why they believe the religion stuff...

religion is a complicated matter. For some, it's about explaining the stuff that's unexplainable or the idea of having some higher power to pray to. For me, it doesn't matter as long as nobody tries to shove one down my throat.

Yeah. It confuses a good part of the world I think. That's why we have multiple religions. Someone had to be different and said "no your religion is crud. I'm making up my own. Nah nah na boo boo." lol. :P

Can't say I'm surprised, most of the countries in Africa are very conservative in the social spectrum and are very religious, whether it be Christianity or Islam.
