Actually, there were more people ON the Destiny Ascension than died to save it...10,000 asari, last I checked, versus only about 6,000 turians lost (20 ships, 300 turians on each one), and an indeterminate number of humans (eight cruisers lost, I don't know how many aboard each; if its roughly the same as the turians, that would make the human deaths around 2,400 to 3,000; though the Systems Alliance navy would be less able to weather the loss than the much-larger navy of the Turian Hierarchy).

Only with the DA still around, you get it as a War Asset in ME3. And you gotta admit, it is an *awesome* looking starship.
