Date a girl who draws.

You know the one. Her bag will be filled with discarded pencils and pens, scraps of paper with mindless doodles on them and blank books sticking out of her bag. She's the one who spends an hour trying to find the perfect sketchbook, only to pick up three more because she just couldn't help herself. She's the one hunched over in the coffee shop, rain or shine, the gears in her mind turning and turning while her hands move to catch up with every idea she has. She's the one who's too focused on what she's doing that her coffee's gotten cold and the people around her peek over her shoulder but she doesn't realise.

Compliment her drawings.

Ask to see more.

Turn the pages carefully, gently. Look at how hard she pressed the pencil into the page, the failed drawings, the successful ones. Look at the careful lines, the messy ones, the ones that give the drawings life. Linger on the pages you like but don't touch the drawings. Look at them carefully. Remember them.

Don't tell her you liked them unless you really did. She'll know.

Hand her book back and smile. Ask her how long she's been drawing for. Ask her how she started. Ask if she'd like to meet you here again. Smile.

Date a girl who draws. Get her simple presents that she mentioned she wanted. A sketchbook, a box of pencils. Because these things are what she needs, what she breathes and lives through every day of her life. Because there's no other way she can.

Date a girl who draws. She'll be moody. Annoyed. Don't be afraid if you come home one day and see crumpled paper all over the floor, her hair a mess and her eyes in panic. She'll spend nights trying to put the idea on the page and it will escape her, time and time again. She's afraid that she's run out of ideas. That she's run out of talent. There might be tears. Give her a blanket, a hot cup of tea and wrap her up. Put her to bed. Tell her the ideas will come tomorrow. Date a girl who draws. She needs someone to tell her when to stop.

Date a girl who draws. She'll see the things other people don't, the colours that people miss and the moments some ignore. She'll put the feelings down in her work, she'll capture them. When she offers to show you her drawings don't miss the opportunity. A piece of art is part of an artist's soul. It is a part of her that sometimes she's too afraid to show anyone else because she'll afraid they'll laugh at her. Tell her what you think, be honest. No matter if it's bad or silly or needs a little work, let her know that her gesture wasn't in vain. Appreciate it.

Date a girl who draws. She'll make you things, drawings and cards. She'll pour every single effort she has into them and pray and hope that you'll like them. Tell her you love them and keep them safe. Pull them out when you're having a bad day because each and every mark made on the page was from her.

You will wonder, always, what she's thinking, what she's planning to do next. You'll ask her but she won't respond, only smile and shake her head. You'll wonder what your life was like before she came in and added all the colour. She'll be spontaneous, creative. She'll want to go everywhere, every second with you because she wants to know more. She wants to put it all down onto paper, where it'll last long after memories fail.

You'll grow old with her. Eventually the drawings will slow down. You'll look back over her old sketchbooks and laugh and cry. She'll tell you the story behind each and every one, with the same old look in her eyes that she used to have when you caught her in the coffee shop, scribbling down another idea. She'll teach your kids how to draw. She'll buy them crayons and paper. You'll go upstairs to check on them one night and find them asleep, paper scattered over the floor, a child in her lap and a bright crayon in her hand.

Date a girl who draws. She'll turn the most ordinary thing into something beautiful. And she might just do the same thing with your life.
I read the date a girl who reads thing and thought there was a need for this one. :p
