For those that don't know, Toon Makers produced a Sailor Moon pilot for an American audience back in 1994. It was a live-action/CG/hand-drawn animation hybrid that does little to resemble the original anime that was eventually dubbed into English by DiC. It sort of feels like a cross between Power Rangers, She-ra, and . . . Princess Gwenevere, maybe? The actual pilot never aired of course, but a presentation reel has long been available via youtube. The reason this pops into my head now is because a lot of production cels have recently turned up on eBay. I'm ashamed to admit that I sort of want one.

Toon Maker was trying to pitch this idea to DiC who turned it down right away due to it's bad plot. They thought it would've been a lot cheaper if they dubbed Sailor Moon in America. Despite the bad dubbing and cutting episodes, DiC made the right call.
Think about how bad it would've been if Saban got involved Toon Maker's Americanized Sailor Moon. No doubt, I don't mind a mix of races being sailor guardians. However, the bad theme song and terrible writing would make up for it.
