Save Kiska Stamp by EncounterEthereal Save Kiska Stamp by EncounterEthereal
Original Picture by ~SloanerTaku used with permission. I edited the water slightly so the words would show up. Please do not bother, flame, go after, or otherwise harass the photographer in any way shape or form. Any nasty, rude or otherwise idiotic comments will be hidden and ignored immediately.

I put Save Kiska because I don't personally agree with freeing her but I think SOMETHING needs to be done. This stamp can be used for either side of the captivity dilemma. She is older and alone and I really think she needs to go to a better facility where she can have a friend (or more preferably) of her own kind and better care. I think some orcas are candidates for release but I don't believe others are. I am not pro or anti captivity but I feel that having the ability to let people get close to these amazing animals will in turn educate them and hopefully leave them loving the species. I am however completely against capturing orca from the wild. These are my beliefs and I do not wish to be bombarded with nasty comments so please keep captivity comments to yourself.

Kiska needs the company of other orcas. She, Kshamenk, and Lolita should all be moved!

Kiska should be moved. She shouldn't die alone in (what was the aquarium she's living at again?)

I remember seeing Kiska when I was a child, on vacation from the other side of the country, and both remembered her specifically and was excited to see her again a couple years later.  It is so sad that she's all alone now :(

I have never seen her in person, only pictures and video. No Orca should be alone. Personally I think sending her to Loro Parque might be a solution to both problems. She would have company and she would be a stable adult to keep the aggression and misbehaving to a minimum. That or she, Lolita, and Kshamenk should be placed together somewhere.

Sending her to LP is a good idea! I hate that place as it is, but they need an older female there.

there was this documentary that I watched once that I really enjoyed. It was about elephants and rhinos. Apparently in this fenced wild game park, endangered rhinos were being killed by the bull elephants. Turns out the elephants that were brought in to the park were herds that were what was left of larger herds that had been culled. The females were all ok because they were with their mothers who were adults and stable but the male calves got older and were kicked from the herd (at the normal age) and were struggling. They started behaving badly and attacking and killing the rhinos. So this park decided to bring in three mature adult bulls to see if it would help the problem. After a few weeks the rhino killings stopped and never happened again. They just needed a stable adult male or two to shown them how they needed to act and put them in their place.

I think putting a stable dominant adult in with them would help over at LP.

Wow, that's really interesting.

Agreed. Those whales wouldn't be half as fucked up if there was an adult female there to show them how to be an orca.

I've seen videos. She seems so listless compared to when Ikaika was there. :(
