There are so many things wrong with this- the stiff pose, the shading, the lack of contrast- I only realized halfway through that there was too little contrast (helpful tip that I knew but didn't heed: keep the surrounding work area of photoshop a medium, neutral color so that you don't misjudge your levels; I had mine set to black
, which is why this turned out way too dark
) So stupid me, I tried using the "levels" function to correct it and ended up posterizing the hell out of it. I fixed it as best I could without actually starting over, but...well, just don't look too closely at the darkest areas.
But I guess they can't all be winners, can they?
On a positive note though, I am really pleased with the design of her dress, and I devised a new way of painting roses because I had grown unhappy with my usual way of doing it. And when I say 'devised', what I really mean is I read this tutorial by =pandabaka
on drawing roses and just painted the results, hurhurhur~
