Not everything that needs care grows on a windowsill. Some things live more quietly—somewhere between thoughts and feelings, where the light isn’t always obvious, and “watering” is simply a little attention.

We rarely think of this as care. Rather, as a pause we sometimes allow ourselves. And yet, perhaps the most important things grow precisely there—inside, where no one checks to see how things are going.
