Guesswork

Suppose that was a clue of sorts,
Perhaps that was a look?
Did we just share a moment?
Was something I mistook?
Was that a subtle glance my way
Or am I being vain?
But on and on these questions
Circle round and round my brain

It's guesswork
Just guesswork
I wonder if you wonder, and I wonder why I do...
It's guesswork
Only guesswork
I wonder if you wonder if I'm kinda into you

I see you walking through the door
And drift across the room
You end up standing by my chair
But I hate to assume
You're talking to those friends of yours
And I ask 'how are you?'
You chat and sit, but that was it
And I'm returning to...

My guesswork
Good old guesswork
I wonder if you wonder and I wonder why I do
This guesswork
Massive guesswork
I wonder if you wonder if I'm kinda into you

When somebody cracks a joke
Guess where my eyes race:
Across the group to where I see
The laughter on your face;
And am I only seeing things?
Am I where your eyes land?
If this is real, I love this game,
But how long can I stand...

This guesswork?
Always guesswork
I wonder and I wonder and I wonder why I do
This guesswork
All this guesswork
I wonder if you know by now how much I'm into you...

Careless Magic
I am not one for careless magic. I like things when they disappear or hide themselves up the sleeves of your coat. I like the cards you put in piles, the way the paper quivers as I poke at them when you are not looking. I like the tiny balls and marbles the agate eyes of cats and birds you juggle with a nimble smile as if asking me to count them or try and steal them back. I like the colors of the scarves that lead to nowhere the flagrant red silk squares and yellow cloths - flags of summer parading through the yard. You pluck rabbits from my hat, from the collar of my shirt - and peel back the white pelts, pink skin slick and trembling with

In progress as a ukulele song. :) Gimme some time though; I only started playing yesterday...
BUT I LOVE IT.

Lovely, captures such a universal experience, and it's got a nice rhythm and structure for a song.

If you do record this as a song, I want to hear it. :D
I was actually listening to an upbeat song while reading it and matched your lyrics to its melody in my head, which was fun. And good luck learning the Ukulele! :)

Oh, it didn't exacly match, just the fast sung parts,I guess ^^; It was "Red Baloon" by Charli XCX. The rhythm didn't match, but the feeling of the song: upbeat, sunny, a bit silly maybe. :)
