(2021) 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" Pencil, ink and acrylics on paper.

The geomantic figure via. Via is Latin for "road" and is associated with the element of water and the astrological condition of the moon in cancer.

Via is made up of four lines of single dots and stands for clear direction and fixity of purpose. As my image I chose a section of the Via Appia in Italy, an ancient Roman road. I really enjoyed capturing the golden low light of evening and the deep shadowy greens of the trees lining the road

The road. Finished reading The Hobbit for the zillionth time. Back to the Lord of the Rings. I have the 1992 centennial edition illustrated by Alan Lee.

“It's a dangerous business… going out of your door. You step into the road, and… there is no knowing where you might be swept off too.”

Love LOTR, and Alan Lee had the perfect hand for Tolkien’s vision. It’s still my go-to adventure to read when it feels like fall.
