Description
(2010), 3" x 3" for the pendant. Silver art clay (carved, fired, enameled, antiqued, polished and burnished), glass enamel, moonstone cab, Baltic amber cab, bezel wire, silver wire
This pendant is part of an art trade with
, who made me this amazing lion drawing in exchange.
Khepera was the Egyptian god of the rising sun. As the dung beetle rolls a ball of dung across the ground, so the ancient Egyptians believed the god Khepera rolled the sun across the sky. Winged scarabs were powerful amulets for regeneration and rebirth to the afterlife.
Making this piece has become a rather poignant task these past few days as unrest is shaking modern Egypt and in some cases has started to threaten the amazing heritage of the country. My hopes go out to the Egyptian people - may they find freedom and peace, and may they be safe.
