Breathtaking painting :) Hope you don't mind me asking this, but what kind of software have you used to create this masterpiece?

Wow, what program was used for this? Im using gimp but fail to get results even just similar to thoose brushes..

Thanks!

I use Photoshop. I tried Gimp some time ago and, yes, it wasn't as fluid as Photoshop. Nonetheless, I've seen some people do very good work using that software, so I imagine it may be possible, I don't know, perhaps there's some tutorial out there that explains how to get better results with the brushes on Gimp

you are great at landscapes and backgrounds ,do you use references?
Ellixus's avatar
Thank you very much!

About references, it depends. Unless I'm very familiar with the subject that I'm painting or I'm just doing a random sketch, doing a little research and looking at some references is usually the first step before I start working. Of course, once the research is done, I try to use that information to do something different. Copying a reference is ok if you're making a study though.

Anyway, I hope that answers your question... :)

I have a question. Why do you give the clouds such a "rough" look? And with "rough" I mean why not blur them a bit?
Ellixus's avatar
To be honest, this was a quick concept, so I was focusing mostly on the colour and the composition... although, I agree it'd look better if I had spent just a little bit more time working on the clouds' material... ^^U

I see all these concept arts everywhere and all you say is that's its quick or something random. We'll I want to learn this! So I'm going to draw a drawing every day for a year and see where it gets me

Good to hear that!

There's no secret to improve your skills, you just need to be disciplined, work hard and paint every day! And if you feel like you need some guidance, nowadays there's a plenty of tutorials on the internet that might help you!

Best of luck!
