It's important to have firm rules about your commission prices and your payment methods, and to stick to them. This is something I learned the hard way, thanks to a story about a sweet boy who loved Spider-Man, and his thoughtful father who just wanted to be able to give a custom piece of art to him for his birthday. I'm putting this story down in writing in the hopes that I will save someone else the embarrassment of getting strung along by a similarly cute story. I've been assured that this is perfectly normal, that there's almost no takers when you're first starting out, and it's simply a matter of hard work and hustling before people start finding you and asking you for commissions.
