Pride and Prejudice - pencil by ellaine Pride and Prejudice - pencil by ellaine
"Oh! She is the most beautiful creature I ever beheld! But there is one of her sisters sitting down just behind you, who is very pretty, and I dare say very agreeable. Do let me ask my partner to introduce you."
"Which do you mean?" and turning round he looked for a moment at Elizabeth, till catching her eye, he withdrew his own and coldly said: "She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt ME; I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men. You had better return to your partner and enjoy her smiles, for you are wasting your time with me."

Jane Austen - "Pride and prejudice"

To be honest the longer I look at the coloured version of it, the less I like it. So, I have finished the pencil version and I'm more happy with it, even if many people don't appreciate pencil work much these days. I think that pencil drawings still have a lot of charm, which digital mediums are lacking. But I hope you will like it as much as the previous version (even if scanners and pencils aren't best friends ever...) :)

I prefer this version - I think her smile is a mite creepy in the colored, though her eyes seem slightly overdone here.

Pssh...I can't really critique because they are both simply lovely! She has that conniving look to her, which is how I always see Lizzie. Jennifer Ehle played that perfectly with that cute little smirk. LoL

Well done! Don't listen to me...I try to do constructive criticism, but, really, you don't need it!

I think I may be seeing why you like this version better (as do I) - somehow, the pencil makes the details look more...delicate. Hm.

I think this is my favourite of all of Jane Austin's books though I haven't read all of them. It's the favorutie of thsoe i have read though. I think you captured the type of clothing and emotion of the time and the book extremely well in this. It's beautiful and I am in awe of your ability be it with colour or black and white.

Very pretty. I love her hair.
I always like pencil the very best. It always seems to have more texture and depth than digital art, to me.

Great work!
Really like the fabric, and their expressions.
KosherSoulMachine Featured By Owner Aug 15, 2008
Very nice, I agree with you about the pencil image...something about it has more life and emotion than the other one, which is a little hehe, is corpsical a word? Pale-ish and cold.
Then again, I may be biased...I like renderings. :D

I love the texture that pencils create. I really like your picturel. The simplicity in the poses but the complicity in the detail makes it simply beautiful.

oh I love this book so much.. and the newer movie (with matthew macfayden and kiera knightly) is fantastic! I just watched it last night! Like all other females familiar with the story I'm in love with Mr. Darcy... Beautiful picture on a wonderful subject!

Jak znalazł do książki. Gdyby ktoś to wydał z Twoimi rysunkami, pewnie bym się nawet przemógł i to przeczytał.
ellaine Featured By Owner Feb 23, 2008
Wiesz, ale moje ilustracje tak czy owak nie zmieniłyby treści książki;p
Grisznak Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2008
Ale uczyniłyby jej lekturę dalece przyjemniejszą, uwierz mi. Znam przypadki, kiedy ilustracja naprawdę uprzyjemnia lekturę.

I'm a big fan of the sketch-version, too; I love how soft the textures came out, and the detail in the hair.. and of course, anything Pride & Prejudice is fine by me! =D

I like the colored one, but this is far more elegant and romantic. Nice work.

AH! I prefer this version myself. I sketch more than I paint, and the reason why is obvious right here. It's a beautiful piece of work.

I wonder what effect it would have had if you had more accentuated the contraste.

o lol... mnie się tam bardzo podoba ta praca. ale masz racje z tym niedocenianiem biednych ołówków ;p
(chyba będę musiała powiadomić siostrę o twoim rysunku... ona uwielbia "Pride and Prejudice", a twoje dziełko jest świetne )

I love pencil :D
But I agree, it is underappreciated so I often computerize it.
Bitter-Symphony Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2008
Now this one got me confused, I dont know which one I love better, the colour version is awesome, but pencil work kicks some ass, & gives this picture a certain feeling .. awesome work on both of them.

people don't appreciate pure pencil much anymore do they? Well I think it is marvelous!! I do pretty much all my stuff in pencil and when I try to color or photoshop it it always comes out lacking. So hey i agree and love love love the pencil version. It also kinda goes with the time period even! Very lovely  and Darcy is just such a hottie!
