This is magnificent. You know your Titanic history as only 3 of the smoke stacks were functional. It was actually a series of events that doomed the great ship. It's been proven that it wasn't because the Titanic was a poorly made ship. The Titanic was actually a very well built ship. Even the old theory about the rivets being weak , esp.in the cold ocean has been proven to be false. Experts back then and today have said that the Titanic would probably have survived a direct hit, even at the speed it was going. A fire that had been burning for several days in one of the coal bins was what did in the Titanic as it weakened several of the bulk heads and it was these bulk heads that took the main part of the collision.

Titanic will always remain as the greatest ship in the history of sailing. I hope they will pull him to the surface one day.

They have brought up pieces of her (there is a section of hull plating, nicknamed the "Big Piece", that currently resides in Las Vegas, IIRC), but salvaging the entire wreck is not feasible at this point. She rests at a depth of two miles, is broken in two, and is being devoured by iron-eating mircro organisms. The wreck is far too fragile to move.

I thought installing gigantic airbags can take him on the surface. Oh, well, what to do.

It is strongly suggested that Titanic will never be raised, as the wreck is becoming weaker and weaker as time flows. I personality think it shouldn't be raised to the surface, it should be left where it is, as it is a grave and a memorial for all the persons who perished onboard her. However, scientists and experts should make something to protect the wrecksite to prevent the Titanic from collapsing. I remember reading that, by painting the wreck with a special "product", Robert Ballard though it could be preserved.

What people need to do is to protect the wreck of the Titanic as much as they can. I'm pretty sure that with all the technological progress we've done, we can at least preserve the wreck for a time, before it eventually disappears.

It seems I’m not the only one who has the desire to get the Titanic out of the depths of the sea. My mother told me that it’s a risk to take the Titanic out of the water because of the whole metal construction corrosion it. A century has passed away since Titanic sank. She also told me the entire project would cost several million dollars and it would be risky to do something like that. I don’t think the ship will easily "disappear" because there are Spanish galleys made of wood at the time and they are 400 years under the water. I hope they will find ways to prevent the metal structure from collapsing. I wish the machine were real to help us to cease the ship sinking. Wish the luck the character Dr. Who and his time machine are real.

Yep, lot of people want to save the Titanic by pulling it out of the water. However, by doing so, it would only destroy the Titanic even faster. And well, while I support the idea of saving the wreck, I wouldn't want to see it out of the water even if it was possible. As I said, I don't see the Titanic as a wreck, but as a grave. And graves should be left where they are.

I hope the ship won't disappear as fast as scientists think it will (according to them, within 20/50 years it will collapse on itself). I am absolutely sure that the Titanic can be preserved way more longer with the technology of our century. That's what should be done, instead of raising it out of water.

Indeed, wouldn't it be fantastic to be able to go back in time, to prevent such tragedies? I would be the first one to try and stop this magnificient ship from sinking!

Cease the sinking of Titanic, World War I, World War II and 9/11 tragedy. I’m glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I hope they’ll do something to prevent the collapse of Titanic.

When it was built. The corporation that built it used cheap nails which broke when it struck the iceberg.

Nails weren't weak. It has been proved any other ship would have been damaged by hitting an iceberg at full speed. The only weakness of this ship was her size, which made her harder to control and turn.

The ship's fate was sealed when they decided to make it sail at full speed at night, knowing they were surrounded by ice. Big, big mistake.

She was a beauty... It's tragic how human (arrogance, stupidity, etc.) ended her life prematurely. In the immortal words of Pete Seeger, "When will we ever learn?"

Beautiful image, excellent likeness!

Indeed she really was a magnificient ship, and I think we'll never see any other ship as beautiful as this one, unfortunately.
I agree on that. This, and more safety would have saved the Titanic. If only they stopped the ship at night when they were entering the icefield... I think what makes the story of the Titanic so heartbreaking is the fact that this disaster could have been completely avoided.
