I love that this image incites a deeper, more emotional response than much of the artwork available on DA; and does it in a way that is simple and elegant. You do not need a complex image to get your point across, which is very refreshing. I think a lot of it has to do with the lighting/color choice...the very cool blue-green bordering on grey makes it clear that this is not meant to be a cheerful piece, even without the title.

It is certainly a bold choice allowing strangers such an intimate glimpse into your thoughts, a diary is typically one of the most private item one has, so allowing even a glimpse into that displays a potential for vulnerability, but also displays strength in taking the risk.

One thing I think might be interesting is playing around a bit with the cropping, see what it does to the image to maybe cut out some of the "negative space" as it were. In most Western languages, people read from left to right so naturally the eye is drawn to the left-most part of a photograph first (of course, this is likely the opposite in cultures where they typically read from right to left so depending on your intended audience....) Currently the left-most part of your photograph has a lot of negative space which is not especially stimulating as it is a wall, making the first focus more on the diary by cropping it closer could change the dynamic, making the focus more on inner thoughts/anguish. But on the other hand, if your goal is first and foremost establishing "loneliness", leaving the image as is might better serve that purpose.

Either way, the choice is yours, it is your image, after all. You have amazing talent in your drawings as well! I also hope that you understand what I was talking about!

Brilliant work!
