Okay i was going to lay out for my self my ECMS project but i thought i would share it here as its highly relevant

ECMS stands for "Electronic Component Management System"
im starting up a home electronic business and part of this i need a quick almost factory line like way of assembling the electronics and i thought an over elaborate complicated money and time consuming method would be best because im like that :meow:

so i need a system to do the following

1: allow me to make schematics only with only the components i expect to have in stock
2: allow me to make a printed circuit board and do mass etching of the PCBs drill the holes clean EXC
3: allow me to manage all my components coming in and going out and allert me whne im runnign low on something
4: allow me to import the part list form the schematic and find the locations of those components
5: take the locations of the components and and wirelessly transmit the locations to a PLC that physically identifies where each component is with a system of LEDS and the value of the components (if passives) on a display to collect and begin soldering
6: a system to manage orders and ship
7: systems of electronically managing tedious tasks (burning mutable CDs placing ICS in IC sockets EXC)
8: a system of testing finished printed circuit boards if the quantity is to large to do manually

my solutions (corresponds with above)
1: custom eagle library with part names matching part names in my innovatory exactly
2: eacle PCB that is printed directly on PCBS than dropped in an acidic etching solution
than shined and placed on a CNC mill for hole drilling
3: using 'OpenOffice Base' i will create a database of components with all the information needed than it will be managed and controlled with a C# based program
4: this will be done by turning the eagle part list files in to 'OpenOffice Calc' files that will be read by the C# application ... it will link the names of the components with the components in the database and receive the stock number and transmit that over bluetooth to the host unit
5: a host unit made up of a 32 bit ARM microcontroller will receive the location the name and value information for every part via bluetooth and sort and transmit what PLC slave unit (made up of an AVR microcontroller and a CLPD) and each one can control up to 60 LEDs thanks to multiplexing and allow up to 6 inputs (skip, next, restocked buttons exc) this will show the location of each individual part in a grid of part boxes and the display will be an arduino controlled serial connected 120X60 graphic display
6: simple openoffice base forum
7: also controlled by the PLC slave units programmed individually via an SD card with many tasks than each task selected by the primary unit
8: a series of test pads on the board it self than a separate board with a series of corresponding spring loaded pins coupled with a microcontroller ... press the board on top hit a button and green light means go red light means something is wrong

constructive criticism help advice or whatever is appreciated

I'm specialized in control using PLC units .. it's not easy but it's fun when you start doing stuff!

What about you?
