Connecting : Chapter 14 (TonyxReader)Chapter 14: Out in the 'Middle of Nowhere' (Otherwise known as Mallory, CN)
“Desolate,” Tony murmurs, “Absolutely desolate. There isn’t a single sign of life here.”
“Oh, hush, Tony,” you chide with the playful roll of your eyes, “It’s not that bad.”
Clint laughs heartily as you all meander down the quaint street of your small hometown, Mallory. A couple of children dash by with one colliding into Clint’s leg. The boy stumbles to the ground at impact. Clint only smiles as he reaches forward to help draw the child to his feet. The boy offers the archer a quick and genuine apology and then a thank you before dashing off after his friends with a wide grin. You chuckle at the sight.
“Cute,” you say with a smile and Clint grins with a nod.
“Right!” he agrees and Thor nods as well.
“But of course! Children are the future, after all. We must nourish their hearts and minds!” Thor proclaims with

New York, 2015 – The next day
“I don’t know what’s going on between you two, but I need you to fix it,” Claire said, looking from you to Nick with a stern expression on her face. “Eric – the director – is this close to kicking you both out of the show,” she continued, the space between the fingers she held up showing you how little room you had left for any more errors.
You were standing in Claire’s improvised office in the Avengers Headquarters as she explained to you and Nick this mission wasn’t about you, but about the safety of the Captain and the other girls. Last night had showed you how dangerous Hydra could be if they wanted to. Fortunately no one had gotten hurt.
“I don’t want to send you home and neither does Eric, but the Captain can’t suspect anything,” she said seriously.

New York, 2016 – Outside the Raft, after your escape
You could feel the cold air fill your lungs as the events of the past few days played before your eyes. That morning in the subway you had met Steve, the way he had looked at you when he realized you weren’t who he thought you were, the explosion in Vienna, the death of T’Chaka (the king of Wakanda), and every single moment that had followed. You had been through a lot – and had lost even more – but for some reason, being on the quinjet with the remainder of the Avengers, made you feel content.
You knew by taking Steve’s hand you’d turn your back on everything you had ever known. Once that would have scared you, but the determination Steve had shown you to help his friend – how much he had been willing to give up for Bucky – had made you realize some things were worth fighting for. Or in your case; rebel against.

Two days ago, coming back from grocery shopping
The warm afternoon sun heated up your cheeks as you walked through the streets of the city. Insanely heavy bags of groceries hung around your arms and Steve was by your side, asking every few hundred feet if you were sure about not letting him carry the bags.
“I can handle myself, Rogers,” you laughed, shaking your head. “I thought you knew that by now.”
“I do,” the super soldier nodded. “I just don’t want you to strain yourself.”
“You’re already carrying most of the groceries. I think I’ll be fine…. Are you?”
“What do you mean?”
“You’ve been acting strange these past few days.”
