I survived my first term teaching. Two more terms and then I will have finished my first year as a teacher. Kinda scary, very exhausting, but it's going okay.

Last journal I was talking about how I could improve my art, so I've decided to drive myself insane and set myself a daily challenge to draw for at least ten minutes every day. Some days I might be drawing part of a bigger picture, some days it might just be stupid doodles, but I'm hoping to keep this up for the entire year! Any I really like, I will be posting on my art tumblr, and I might do some sketch dumps at the end of each month here. I'm not sure.

Generally speaking, I'm not actually a fan of "New Years Resolutions" or the idea of new year, new you, but I figured it would be a good place to start. What are your stances on New Years Resolutions? Have you set any for yourself?

Commissions

Howdy folks, I hope you're all doing well. Life has continued to be pretty hectic, but that's kind of what life does when you're training to be a teacher. For those of you who don't know I'm about ten weeks away from becoming a qualified teacher of English, and I'm hoping to teach English Language & Literature, as well as Creative Writing at A-Level (that's the UK's 16-18 schooling before university). It's hard work, but the kids are great. The worst part for me is the crippling guilt and fear of not adequately preparing them for their exams. My mentor is real sound, and he loves rock music. He's pretty great.

However, there's been a weird stroke of luck, and a friend's boyfriend is setting up a comic company and wants me to be one of the artists for his team, which is pretty rad. I'm a little nervous because I started drawing a mini comic for myself, and the basic lines took most of the day- for one page. On top of that, my art isn't exactly comic worthy, y'know? It's okay, but that's on a good day. I know once I've finished this PGCE course, I'll focus more on my art. I'm looking for a part-time teaching job so I can juggle both at once. That's the plan anyway. My cornershop job is going to end soon-ish, and personal tutors are only needed during exam season. I don't know. How are you all doing and what are you working on?

Wow last time I updated this, I was going on to do a PhD.
My health has been fairly stable, a little rocky at best, but I've still got a pulse.
I finished my Masters dissertation ten days ago, and then the following day, started my PGCE. So far it's been pretty tiring, I really don't enjoy waking up at 6:15 every morning to get there on time. I think I'm doing the right thing by doing this. When I get some money put aside, I might go back to do a PhD, so I can teach at university level, but I might just try do some writing. I really wanna get into comic book writing but I don't really know where to start and I don't feel like my undergrad or masters really left me feel adequately prepared to go into the writing world. This is further emphasised by the lack of free time I've had to do any creative writing- lack of timed caused by being a busy bee and by being really bad at managing my time.

Being bad at managing time for writing has also left me with no time for drawing, which is also super lame. I'm so tired when I get home that I just lie around, try and work and then sleep. Zzzz.

Regarding SXL (if you remember that far back), I think I'll jut post the finished lineart of adult Jackie and just write what happened after the end of SXL rather than write it as a story. It's been well over a year and I just don't have the passion any more. It's seems like a bad idea to force something out just for the sake of it. It's been so long, I suspect most folk are like 'Jackie who?'. That reminds me, I really need to start making time so I can draw my PDL prize art. Oh well. You can read all my SXL adventures here~
