"The harpy eagle, or simply harpy (Harpia harpyja), is considered by many Brazilian indigenous tribes as the personification of tribal chiefs, a symbol of eagerness and prowess. Its eye-sight is eight times more powerful than that of human beings, and this bird is one of the most feared hunters in Brazilian forests.
Although still reasonably common in the Amazonian forests of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil, it will only survive in the long term if the escalating rates of forest loss, fragmentation and degradation in the region is brought under control and a network of inviolate reserves established. Low overall population densities and slow reproductive rates make shooting the most significant threat over its entire range. It could perhaps survive in disturbed forests or even forest mosaics if its large size and boldness in the face of humans did not make it an irresistible target for hunters."
I decided to dedicate this years inktober mostly to endangered, extinct or enslaved animal species.
In November I'll sell some of the originals to raise money for local animal shelters. <3
And here we already reached the second section of my project. Birds!
I'm not used to draw them at all so bear with me while I figure it out. Not at all satisfied with the drawing above, but I should come around with a few drawings in.
Also thank you so much for all the feedback and support I'm getting so far. A few people already want to buy certain drawings and that makes me incredible happy. Thank you so much! All money will of course go to the shelters. <3
