Winter's Morning

It was Skye's first outing for Oak Brooke. Elly had asked her to go and pick up an off the track thoroughbred from a stables a six hour drive away. The snow piled up higher on the edges of the roads as she drove south. She finally arrived at the stables. There were about 50 horses out in snow, galloping around or eating for the hay bales.
Skye got out of the land rover and walked down to the stables. The stables were bustling. Horses being chauffeured in and out of the boxes followed by delighted owners. She stood there, overwhelmed, until a blonde haired lady walked towards her.
"Hello. How can I help you?" she asked confidently.
"Hey, em, I'm looking for a chestnut horse - Everyday is a Gift?"
"Oh yes - follow me!" she chirped.
She led Skye down the long corridor of stables until they reached the end. Lying down in the corner of the stable was a lovely bay mare.
"She looks lovely!" she praised. "Although I don't think she's the horse I'm looking for..."
"Oh! I'm sorry, I took you to number 47, not for 48!" She laughed. "The one you are looking for is still outside. Follow me."
They stopped at the gate to the field.
"Dee!" the lady shouted, hopping over the fence. A bright chestnut mare raised her head from eating, looking over at the lady. The lady pulled the mare's rug off and let the mare walk up to Skye as she followed slowly behind.
"Here she is," she called.
"She's beautiful." Skye murmured to herself. "Let's get you back to Oak Brooke."
