Nineteen years ago on August 7th, DeviantArt was created in a big bang of art and heart, quickly becoming the leading platform to inspire the world.
Whether you're just getting started on your creative journey or consistently challenging yourself to future greatness, we're honored to be your artistic home, and today's celebration is all about our gratitude that each and every one of you have helped make DeviantArt what i
Because there seems to be a confusion between game renders (that you mostly see in the stock images & resources galleries) and fan art, I decided to write this article to help and maybe clarify it.
Game renders, can NEVER be used to create fan art. And here is the reason why:
Game renders are extractions from games. You are basically extracting a character/object/ scene / etc that is copyrighted.
And you extract it "as it is"
All characters, scenes, objects, clothes, etc, have a creator or multiple creators. Someone created that character, they built it from scratch. That means everything: from how would they look, beha
I'm a Stock & Resources Community Volunteer, and this means I cover the Stock and Resources category here, on DeviantArt.
To suggest a Daily Deviation to me, send me a note titled something like "DD Suggestion", that includes the THUMBNAIL of your suggestion.
Before you suggest, please make sure the deviant has not received a Daily Deviation in the past six months. Do this by adding /dds to the end of the url of their page, and looking at the date of the last DD they got, if they have any, or, you can check their gallery by clicking "ALL" and scroll down the page where you'll see: "See Also: [deviantname] daily deviatio
Being a Beginner Week
My novel started out as a creative writing project for uni. The assignment was to write a multiple-chapter story. There were no restrictions. By the time the assignment was due, I had written the first three chapters of Black Velvet, and after receiving a glorious grade for it my teacher suggested I'd keep writing on it, because she thought it had potential, and before I knew it, it was a novel.
I never wrote this with the intention of having it published, so by the time I realised "I could publish this!" I had done zero preparation to do so. This presented me with a challenging set of new tasks, which in turn made me

Although there's an amazing guideline about stock images, which I helped to update recently on CRPhotomanipulation (https://www.deviantart.com/crphotomanipulation)
(which I highly recommend you have a look at)
I want to take another approach to this category.
I have been around devianART for 13 years now. Back then, the resources were quite limited, and some really talented people started working their asses off to provide us with amazing stock images.
They invested their time, their money into costumes, wigs, and so on.
And I really do want to mention some of the stock artists who are still around, and still kick ass at providing amazing stock images:

Art Curation Week
So, as an art appreciator, you have incredibly good taste and decided to curate some amazing art on DA, well good for you buddy!
But where to start? DeviantArt is packed full with incredible art waiting to be discovered, collected, and featured, but how to find it exactly? In this tutorial, we'll see some options you have to curate art on DeviantArt like a pro!
Search & Browse
Let's start with the obvious; searching for art. Searching for stuff on the internet is one of the most basic actions, so you should already be familiar with it. For this, you simply go to a field box, which usually has a magnifying glass, type
Just when you thought it was over...
That's right, people! Time for the next How To Eclipse guide and when you're done learning everything there is to know about submitting your artwork to the new DeviantArt, you will become the next Submit Master (not to be confused with Pokemon Master). Submitting in Eclipse brings back some of the options we know well but adds some new features that will help your art be discovered by the community.
To get to Master level, we're covering the following topics:

DeviantArt takes pride in being home to a vast majority and variety of art, from the mainstream to the very niche. However, not all deviants are into the same things.
In an effort to give you a better experience and more control over what you see – and what you’d rather avoid – while browsing through DeviantArt, we’re introducing Muted Tags in DeviantArt Eclipse.
You can now create a list of tags and topics you wish to be excluded and hidden from your Browse and Search results.
Important note: Tag muting does not affect content on Watch and art posted on other deviants’ Profiles.
To set up your Muted Tags list, follow these steps:
Hover over your Profile avatar in DeviantArt Eclipse
Click Account Settings
Under Muted Tags, start typing the tags you want excluded (you can choose from a pre-populated list) You can add up to 100 tags!
Once you’re done, click Save. Please note that muting tags can take up to 10 minutes to take effect within your Browse & Search results
Eclipse launched to Beta Testers this past fall and has opened up to hundreds of thousands of deviants since. We continue to learn, develop, and improve the next phase of DeviantArt, and we’re looking forward to launching Eclipse to all of the community.
A Glimpse at What We’re Working On
In addition to the following top-priority areas in Eclipse, we regularly post Change Logs highlighting bug fixes, both big and small. Be sure to watch @team to stay updated, because we occasionally post about upcoming features still in the early stages of ideation, and we love to hear what you have to say.
Here’s a glimpse into what we’re working on, but please keep in mind that our timelines for these changes are not yet finalized, and the features are subject to change:
Dark and light theme adjustments: We're revisiting the contrast colors used in Eclipse's light and dark themes with an aim to improve readability.
Muted tags: The ability to “mute” (or “block”) specific tags in browse and search

This month I had the opportunity to sit down with DeviantArt's very own Director of Community Relations, Moonbeam13 (https://www.deviantart.com/moonbeam13)! She's known as DA's very own Wonder Woman who leads the large group of community volunteers here on DeviantArt.
It's a great honor to be able to sit down with her to discuss DA's community, the art, and a whole lot more! Read on to find out more!

Fan Art Week
I. The Origins
When Square was on the point of bankruptcy, their last hope and creation - aptly named Final Fantasy - hit the shelves on the 18th of December, 1987. Little did they know that this game would capture the hearts of gamers worldwide, and turn into a massive series boasting countless spinoffs, sequels, and a large fan base. What started off as a farewell became instead a greeting that ushered in a series which would affect generations of gamers to come.
II. The Mechanics
So, what exactly goes into a Final Fantasy game? What sets the FF series apart from the other JRPGs such as Dragon Quest or Xenoblade Chronicles

Hold on to your hats, cowboys. We're back with another one... and a--and a--and another one. One of the new-for-Eclipse features you may see people talking about is Cover Images. The Cover Image is really the first stand-out piece that someone will see when they visit your profile in Eclipse. Arguably, your cover image could keep someone on your profile or send them elsewhere! Since it is such an important element to engage people who visit you, it's important to make the most of this feature. Staff also put out a great journal with a video to introduce you to the new profile as a whole!
For this tutorial on Cover Images, we'll cover (see w
Explaining the project
Hello fellow artists, friends, watchers, ... Today I started a new project, called #stocks4commercialuse
As a book cover designer and digital artist it is very difficult in finding the right stocks for my artworks & commissions. A lot of hours are spent on searching stocks and reading the rules from different stock providers. A lot of fellow artists here at Deviantart are experiencing the same issue. Therefore I am reaching out to the stock providers here on Deviantart, who are still active and would like to join this project and help the photo manipulator community to help other artists to find their way more e

Hello! My name is Kathy, also known as rainylake (https://www.deviantart.com/rainylake). I am a 26-year-old animal and nature photographer. Creatures and nature always piqued my interest as a child. I'm updating this journal to reflect how I'm feeling today. I go up and down with Eclipse, sometimes I feel hopeful and better, other times, I feel like the majority of issues we are bringing up are not being responded to or we are being told will not be addressed...
While Eclipse is certainly looking a lot better than it was a couple of months ago, there are still some major issues (to me) that need to be addressed, and I'm sure it's the same for you guys!
Let me make something clear, starting petitions and debates about how DA should abolish Eclipse or have 2 versions of the website is an absolute waste of your time and energy.

The Devious Dreams campaign launched in March 2019 as a chance for DeviantArt to grant artists the tools they need to make their creative evolution a reality. With over $20,000 in prizing available to make dreams come true, thousands of deviants shared a wide range of creative and heartfelt dreams for their artistic future. We particularly enjoyed seeing the support everyone put forward for each others’ creative goals.
Now that the campaign has come to a close, it is our honor to announce the recipients of Devious Dreams grants—a collective of artists from all walks of life with a broad spectrum of creative ideas. Some of these deviants requested drawing tablets so they can create every day. Others asked for traditional art supplies, or photography tools to more efficiently create and share their art. Some asked for crafting supplies like sculpting or sewing materials. The projects each artist put forward were varied and inspired, and it’s our pleasure to help bring these dreams

The Devious Dreams campaign launched on March 18th to provide deviants with an opportunity to reach for their artistic evolution by awarding $20,000 in prizing to deviants with art-inspired dreams. The community’s response to Devious Dreams has been unbelievably inspiring and we want to thank everyone for participating, sharing your creative visions, and even just commenting to support artistic endeavors! If you aren’t familiar with Devious Dreams, there’s still a chance to put your dream forward! We want to hear about an art-related project you wish you could undertake, and what you need in order to make it a reality.
What People Have Said So Far! :eager:

Some people have shared community projects, personal projects, or are simply seeking the means to continue doing the work that they’re currently doing.
